Hello, Crafters.
I saw this card on Facebook today, and just had to share it! Normally when I CASE someone’s card, I change things to put my own spin on it, but not in this case! I’ve changed one minor detail, the inside and the colour, but otherwise this is what Laura Seki’s card looked like. It’s stunning, and the idea is so simple. My first impression was that the poinsettia had been heat embossed in white on Vellum Cardstock (CS).
I followed the questions, comments and answers under Laura’s photographs to find out how the poinsettia was made. Had I looked at the stamp set I would have found the answer sooner! There isn’t a stamp in the Peaceful Poinsettia Stamp Set to match the large Vellum poinsettia on the card! Laura had die cut the poinsettia from Sparkle Glimmer Paper. Next she adhered the outline die cut to a Vellum CS poinsettia that had been die cut using only the outline die.
This is the slight change I made. I used Whisper White CS to die cut the Detailed Poinsettia. I had also die cut one using the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper so I could compare the two. Unfortunately, when I needed it I couldn’t find it! I eventually found it on the floor under my trolley. By this time I was tidying up so it was too late to start again! Grrr!
In Laura’s post, she asked other demos which colour they preferred out of the two she was showing i.e. Merry Merlot or Cherry Cobbler. Apparently, the result was split right down the middle! I’ve used Real Red for my card! The sentiment Laura chose is from the Still Night Stamp set. She die cut it using a die from the co-ordinating set of dies called Night Owl.
She accentuated the sentiment by die cutting the same shape again but in Cherry Cobbler CS. Laura then cut it in half lengthways and adhered one piece at the top, and the other piece at the bottom of the sentiment. Laura decorated the inside of her card by using one of the corner dies from the set, and die cut the bottom right hand corner.
Before I started decorating the inside of my card. I had a look inside my Real Red Ziplock bag where I keep punched, die cut and stamped shapes, sentiments, etc. that I’d made but never used! Sometimes they come in really handy! When I looked today I found several ferns, and small flowers I’d saved the first time I used the Detailed Poinsettia Thinlits Dies. I selected what I needed to decorate the bottom two corners, and I was sorted!
I think Laura’s design is absolutely stunning, and is my favourite kind of card…………..clean and simple! Many thanks for the inspiration Laura! That’s about it for today; until tomorrow, happy crafting.
JanB.

Hi Jan, My happy post and stamp pads arrived today – lovely, thank you very much. I have been admiring the poinsettia card and
could’nt fathom what CS was short for. Could you enlighten? Thanks Pam. x
Hi, Pamela. I’m so pleased your happy mail arrived today. Enjoy! CS is an abbreviation for Cardstock. Happy crafting, JanB. xx
