Hello, Crafters.
Late yesterday afternoon I had an appointment with my dentist because I’ve been having toothache since last weekend! It looks like I have a gum infection, and I’m now on antibiotics! He’s made another appointment for me on Friday because he thinks he knows where the infection has come from, but he can’t check it out thoroughly until my gums have calmed down a bit!
At times like this, it’s such a blessing to be a crafter! Making today’s card was a brilliant distraction for me! I’ve always liked the Animal Outing Stamp Set, except the three animals all have closed eyes! Yesterday, when I was working on today’s card, I stamped and coloured one image of each animal, all with their eyes opened.
I didn’t get to use the kangaroo nor the giraffe for today’s card, but I’m hoping to use them for another project before the end of this week’s challenge. If I don’t they’ll go into my next left-overs challenge! LOL!! If you saw yesterday’s blog, you’ll know that I used so many different coloured Stampin’ Write markers on the bugs, that I couldn’t remember which ones I did use. DOH!
When I was colouring today’s images. I made a note on my notepad which colours I used for which image! I stamped the hippo using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Whisper White Cardstock (CS). I drew his eye with a Fineliner Pen in Grey. In our catalogue we have a pack of two Journalling Pens (145480), and the widths are 0.01 and 0.05. The smaller size would be brilliant for the eyes!
I painted the hippo using the Light and Dark Stampin’ Blends in Smokey Slate, making sure I avoided the eye! The tusk needed some colour but I didn’t have a clue what to use. Eventually I decided to paint it with Light Smokey Slate, and then I went over it with the Colour Lifter! It worked brilliantly! I used Light and Dark Calypson Coral and Dark Daffodil Delight for his beak.
My original plan for the top layer was to emboss the top half and then use some Garden Lane Designer Series Paper (DSP) for the lower half. When I went through my box of Embossing Folders, I decided the Woodland would be most suitable, and I also decided it should be used on the whole sheet! So the DSP found itself back in the bag; better luck next time! LOL!
For the balloons I picked six random colours and punched them out with my Balloon Bouquet Punch. I used a white gel pen to draw a shadow line on each balloon. I put two regular sized Dimensionals on the back of each balloon, and I used the the lower one to attach the Linen Thread to the balloon! They were all long enough so I could make then go towards the bird as if he was holding the balloon strings! LOL!
To decorate the inside of my card I added a layer of Call Me Clover Cardstock and Soft Sea Foam. I decorated the bottom right-hand corner with two balloons. The sentiment is from the Wiggle Worm Stamp Set. Looking at my finished card on the shelf in front of me, I think I should have painted round the base of the hippo in green for grass or blue for water! What do you think?
That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, happy crafting.
JanB. xx

This is my favorite so far, Jan. Great blending and design. Love the eye!
Many thanks, Karen. Check out the eyes on tomorrow’s card!! xx
This card is so sweet Jan. I think I will have a go at it. Thank you for being a brilliant mentor, guide and help. I really am not very good at being creative and your ideas are always amazing.
Many thanks for your very kind words, Debbie. I really appreciate them and your support. xx
What an absolutely delightful and very colorful card, Jan! Thank you … 😉🎈👍🏻
Many thanks, Suzy. I struggle with multi-coloured cards but I keep reminding myself I’m working on children’s cards and they must be colourful! xx
Hi Jan, thanks for sharing. Love your videos and all your ideas, such an inspiration. How did you get the balloons to be so shiny? Doreen
Hi, Doreen. The balloons are just cardstock. I think the white shadow line gives the illusion that the balloon is shiny when it isn’t really. I’m so pleased you like my videos and my ideas. I appreciate your support – thank you. xx
