Hello, Crafters.
I had two leftovers from the Beautiful Day Stamp Set and I was hoping to use them both on the same card. The images are a flower and a butterfly, and I saw the idea on Pinterest by Merit Brown – mbsquareddesigns.com. Each of my images were on a piece of our Cardstock (CS) Vellum, and were more or less the size of a regular card layer.
I’m not sure how Merit had made her card, but I decided in the end that she didn’t use Vellum! I think she stamped or heat embossed the flower in black, directly on to her top layer. I think she did the same with the butterfly but on a separate piece of Whisper White Cardstock (CS) and stamped the left-hand side of the butterfly twice! After colouring them, I think Merit cut them both out and laid one on the top of the other, slightly offset. The effect was beautiful!
I couldn’t start again because I’m on my leftovers challenge! My butterfly has now been painted with Blueberry Bushel and Pacific Point Stampin’ Write Markers, and is back with the leftovers! I decided to carry on with just the flower which I had painted using the Stampin Write Markers in Calypso Coral and Call Me Clover.
I used a piece of the Woven Threads Designer Series Paper (DSP) for my top layer, then a layer of Calypso Coral CS, adhered to a Whisper White CS card base. After I had fussy cut the flower, I went round the edges with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker making sure all the edges were painted black!
To adhere the flower to the DSP, I carefully applied Tombow very thinly on the black lines. This would stop the glue showing through the vellum! I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment in black on a strip of Whisper White CS, which I then adhered to a slightly wider strip of Calypso Coral CS. I used my Triple Banner Punch to fishtail the end!
I decorated the banner with some Grapefruit Grove flower sequins, and I added some very small Basic Pearls in the centre of the flower. The Calypso Coral went with the Terracotta Tile colour that was in the DSP brilliantly! I did consider adding a bow or a ribbon, but fortunately, I talked myself out of it! LOL!
To decorate the inside of the card I made a strip the width of the top Whisper White CS layer, and adhered a narrower strip o the Woven Threads DSP. Earlier I had noticed some lacy die cuts in the Calypso Coral CS folder. I retrieved them to see if there was anything I could use! I found the piece you can see adhered to the strip inside the card which was from the Petals and More Dies, which retired on 3rd June 2019. The die was quite a bit longer, but I had shortened the die-cut for a project I was working on, but then changed my mind and didn’t use it!
Another leftover’s card I’m pleased with. I’m also very pleased I have two crafters, doing the same challenge to use up some of their leftovers. It’ lovely to have you onboard, Ladies. There’s plenty of room for the rest of you to join in! ☺ That’s it from me today. I hope you have a terrific Thursday, and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, happy crafting.
JanB. xx

I’ve completed 3 cards and 6 craft fair projects that were never completed. So glad to be a part of this challenge Feels good to get these things cleaned up. Also, you have given me another wonderful idea for the inside with this latest “leftover” of yours. Thanks to you I have finally figured out what to do with the inside of the cards. Most people posting only show the outside and I have always been left wondering what to do with the inside. Thank you.
Hi, Barbara. It’s great having you working alongside me! Today, I was working on Sunday’s video, and I used two leftover (small) magnolias. This was totally unplanned, but they were just what I needed. I’m really pleased it’s a successful exercise for you, too! I must do this again in the not too distant future. xx
