Hello, Crafters.
I hope you’ve enjoyed a relaxing weekend, crafting away maybe? After making yesterday’s video, I had some penguins leftover, so I decided to make today’s card around them. Although I’d ignored the Mercury Glass Designer Acetate until last week, after using it the first time, I couldn’t wait to use it again. To be honest, when I first the acetate I didn’t think WOW but now I’ve used it, I think it’s brilliant!
My design didn’t work out quite the way I had planned, because the acetate is so patterned it conceals the die-cut edging – created from a die in the Frosted Frames Dies – on the Whisper White Cardstock (CS) centre-piece. It’s quite possible you didn’t notice the die-cut when you first saw the card! I photographed the card from different angles so – hopefully – you can see the details, and also the Wink of Stella I painted on the fancy parts of the die-cutting!
If you haven’t used this acetate before, be advised there is a sheet of plastic covering the front of the acetate which has to be removed. It’s there to protect the acetate from scratches. I had a spare piece of Whisper White (CS) which I’d embossed with the Subtles Dynamic Embossing Folder, so I die-cut the layer for the penquin using another die from the Frosted Frames Dies.
To adhere the acetate to the card base, I applied Tombow on the solid silver areas on the back of the acetate, making sure I didn’t miss any of the edges. I knew the centre of the acetate would be covered by my image, so I spread Tombow over quite a large area, guessing what area would be getting covered up. Fortunately my guesswork was pretty good and no Tombow is visible outside the image!
I chose the sentiment SEASON’S GREETINGS from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set, and stamped it in Seaside Spray Ink onto a scrap of Whisper White CS. After I punched the sentiment out using the Classic Label Punch, I adhered it to the card front using Dimensionals. I also used Dimensionals for the penguin’s layer, and I added one silver Metallic Pearl in each of the four corners to give the impression of nail heads.
To decorate the inside of the card I added a layer of Whisper White CS, and then I adhered another penguin with a Seaside Spray scarf. As I said at the beginning, my card dooesn’t quite look like the design I had in mind, but I’m still very happy with it. One thing I’ve just noticed! I’ve forgotten to “ground” the penguins! They both look as if they are floating in mid-air! That will be remedied very shortly! LOL!
That’s it from me today. I hope you have marvellous Monday, and a wonderful week. I will be back with you tomorrow, so in the meatime, happy crafting!

Thank you for another card with the wonderful penguins. I love these guys. I only wish there was a die that went along with the stamps. I’m not a fan of fussing cutting. I can’t get the even white border all around a cutout & it gets frustrating & I give up. This is beautiful. TYFS
Hi, Claire. I’m so with you on the dies! I’d like to know how Stampin’ Up! decide which images get dies and which ones don’t! Fortunately, the penquins are quite easy to fussy-cut, but there are so many crafters who really don’t like it! xx
