Hello, Crafters.
Yesterday, I had another play with the Stitched Stars Dies that match the So Many Stars Stamp Set. These two products are available as a bundle which saves 10% on the individual prices. The “scroll” I’ve used on today’s card is one long die but I cut it in half so it looks as if it’s running straight under the large star in the centre. The card Stampin’ Up! made to demonstrate this product used this technique.
I decided to use the beautiful but very non-Christmas colour of Coastal Cabana. The top layer is a piece of the Mercury Glass Designer Acetate, which is normally very difficult to adhere to cardstock because the glue tends to show through the Acetate. However, I generally find by spreading Tombow thinly, it’s very hard to see through Acetate, and that certainly applies to today’s card!
I used some retired Glossy White Cardstock (CS) to die-cut the scroll and the white star inside the solid Coastal Cabana CS star. This was an idea I picked up from a swap I received from a demonstrator a year or so ago. I die-cut another scroll using Coastal Cabana CS so I could adhere the stars in the Glossy White CS cut-out stars in the scroll. This provided me with a scroll to use to decorate the inside of the card, and then fill the cut-out stars with the Glossy White CS stars.
To decorate the inside of my card I added a layer of Whisper White CS, and I adhered the Coastal Cabana CS scroll along the bottom. Then I adhered the Glossy White CS stars in the Coastal Cabana CS cut-outs. I went back to work on the front of the card which needed a sentiment. I wasn’t sure whether to use SEASONS GREETINGS or HAPPY CHRISTMAS – both of which are from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set.
I stamped and punched/die-cut the sentiments and played around with different ideas on how I could add them to the front of my card! It was a struggle to get either of them to fit in anywhere without them looking squeezed in! Then I had a great idea! I turned my vertical card, horizontally! HAPPY CHRISTMAS fitted in beautifully, so I popped it up with some Dimensionals.
I finished off the front of my card by adding a medium-sized Clear Faceted Gem in the centre of the main star, and smaller Basic Rhinestone Jewels in the smaller Coastal Cabana CS stars. I also one to the sentiment. Then the penny dropped! When I turned my card to be horizontal, it changed the decoration I adhered inside my card to be on the left-hand side rather than along the bottom! When I opened my card, I liked how it looked – another happy mistake!
A quick note about the retired Glossy White CS I used for today’s project. If I didn’t have any, I would have used photographic paper! I don’t know what the difference is between the two types of paper, but I imagine it would work! Just a thought! That’s it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and in the meantime, happy crafting!
