Hello, Crafters.
I hope you were successful in getting yourself some bargains from the Closeout Event which started yesterday. I was really pleased to see that the Brightly Gleaming and Feels Like Frost Specialty Designer Series Papers (DSP) are going to be carried over to next year’s Christmas Catalogue. I think this is a first and I really hope this becomes a regular feature!
I only have a few scraps of the Brightly Gleaming DSP left but I did manage to find one piece that was big enough to cut a scalloped oval using the largest scalloped oval die from the Layering Oval Dies. The colour of the scalloped oval is Pretty Peacock with Copper Foil. I decided to make the top layer of my card a piece of the Mercury Glass Specialty Acetate layered over a piece of Copper Foil, which I think has worked brilliantly!
Using Pretty Peacock Ink, I stamped the plainer design bauble from the Christmas Gleaming Stamp Set, onto a piece of Whisper White Cardstock (CS). I punched it out with the matching punch, and decided to colour the top part using a Sharpie Copper Pen! I did one on a test piece of paper first, and although it wasn’t easy using a Sharpie because it has a rather fat tip, I did it. The secret is not to press too hard and don’t colour over the stamped lines – although it is very tempting!
I die-cut a Stitched Shape Oval using Pretty Peacock CS, and a larger straight cut oval in Whisper White CS, I adhered the two together and then adhered them onto the larger scalloped Brightly Gleaming DSP oval. I put my card together starting with a card base in Smokey Slate CS, then a layer of Pretty Peacock CS, and finally the acetate adhered to the Copper Foil!
I chose the MERRY CHRISTMAS sentiment from the Christmas Gleaming Stamp Set. Like before, I stamped it in Pretty Peacock Ink on Whisper White CS. It was very easy to cut around the edge freehand leaving a small white edgeing all round. Using Dimensionals I adhered the sentiment and image on the front of the card, and then added the image to the ovals, again, using Dimensionals.
To decorate the inside of the card I wasn’t sure whether to have a top layer of Smokey Slate CS or Whisper White CS – the latter won! I used Tombow and adhered it to a layer of Pretty Peacock CS and then adhered it to the card base. I stamped another bauble in the same way I had done the one on the front of the card, and adhered it in place in the bottom right-hand corner. As it was inside the card, I added a die-cut Copper Foil bow from the Cup of Cheer dies.
I tied a piece of the 1/4″ Copper Trim around the neck of the bauble on the front of the card and tied it in a bow. To finish the decoration on my card I added three Copper Stars in a vertical line, in the top Right-hand corner and the bottom left-hand corner. I was determined not to make the same mistake I made with yesterday’s card. You may remember I forgot to add embellishments until I was writing my blog!
This is it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and in the meantime happy crafting.

I love how you put the Mercury glass over the copper. I am going to use your idea in some of the new year cards I plan for class.
Many thanks, Nancy. I love the Mercury Glass and wish it became a regular product for us! xx
Beautiful card Jan. Haven’t tried acetate on a card yet. You just may get me to get some and give it a go. TYFS
This Mercury Glass Acetate is amzing and it looks great on cards! I’m sure you’ll love it if you do treat yourself! xx
