Hello, Crafters.
I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend and are slowly but surely getting yourselves prepared for Christmas. Over the weekend, Hubby has been putting our Christmas decorations up, and he has done a fabulous job! We have lots of lights all over the place, back and front, inside and outside, some coloured, some flashing, some white! I have a couple of bits to do today and then the decorations are all done!
I didn’t go to Church yesterday because I have shingles and I’m still infectious. Yesterday lunch time, one of the ladies from my house group called round with some flowers for me, so I’ve made today’s card with Julie in mind! When I decorate the inside of my cards I normally keep it to an image that blends with the image on the front of my card. On Julie’s card I have used a sentiment on the front, and the bible quotation inside the card, both of which are from God’s Peace Stamp Set.
I started the front of the card by stamping the large tree from the Merry Moose Stamp Set on a large scrap of Whisper White Cardstock (CS). I used Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, stamped once and then stamped off, higher and slightly off to the side of the first tree. I repeated this twice more and then stamped off a second time.
After I had cleaned my stamp, I stamped twice more using Versamark. I covered the trees with Gold Embossing Powder, and removed the excess powder before I started to heat emboss the powder. Next I die-cut a circle in the centre, and near the top of my Whisper White CS top layer. Then I dry embossed the layer using the Subtle Dynamic Embossing Folder, and adhered the tree image behind the opening.
I took another scrap of Whisper White CS and wiped over it with my Embossing Buddy. Next I stamped my chosen sentiment from God’s Peace Stamp Set in Versamark and covered it with Copper Embossing Powder. After I had removed the excess Embossing Powder, I used my heat tool to heat set it. No matter how many times I see this, I never lose my fascination for watching embossing powder turning to a shiny finish when it has heat applied to it!
I die-cut the sentiment using one of the slim Rectangle Stitched dies but it was too long so I used my trimmer to cut both ends off. This gave me a sentiment with stitched lines top and bottom. I decided to add a Gold Foil layer underneath with more stitching just top and bottom. There are two ways this can be achieved. First you can die cut a piece of gold foil, cut the two ends off, and then cut the remainder in half. Then adhere one piece behind the top and one behind the bottom.
I thought this used a lot more Gold Foil than was necessary so I took two narrow strips of Gold Foil from my scrap bag – they were about half an inch wide. If you have the Stitched Labels Framelits Dies, you’ll have two long “dies” that put a straight line of stitches, or a line of cross stitches onto your cardstock. These two dies only do the stitching, they don’t cut the strip off.
I put the straight stritch die as close to the edge of a Gold Foil strip so I could see about 1/32nds of an inch, and then ran it through my Big Shot. I adhered one piece at the top and one at the bottom of my sentiment. After I felt the glue was sufficiently dry, I cut the two ends so the Gold Foil was the same length as the Whisper White CS. I’m so pleased with the effect I have ceated because it is something a bit different!
As my card will be my Christmas card for Julie, I heat embossed the bible quotation from Luke 2:10-11 using Gold Embossing Folder. I positioned it towards the top of my layer so I have room to add my personal greeting to Julie and her family at the bottom. I’ve also decided that I’m going to make some more cards in this design for certain other people at Church. This is definitely going to be a job for my Stamparatus!
That’s it from me today. I hope you have a marvellous Monday, and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, happy crafting.
JanB. xx

A very simple but elegant card Jan. The embossing adds that little something extra. TYFS
Many thanks, Claire. Embossing is certainly worth the effort! xx
Oh My! I have shingles as well. Only the nerve pain now. I hope you get to feeling better. Don’t rush it, it’s going to take awhile, At least 6 weeks or more. Your in my prayers.
Your card is beautiful. Love the gold embossing. Looks elegant. Thank you for sharing.
Diane
Bless you, Diane. The worst of the pain has gone, it’s just occasionally reminds me that it’s still there! I pray you’re in the clear very soon, too. I’m pleased you like this project. I still love watching the magig of heat-embossing! xx
