Hello, Crafters.
Today the new Mini (previously known as Spring/Summer) Catalogue goes live! I have been really itching to start playing with the Painted Poppies Stamp Set, and yesterday was the day I started scratching the itch! I started with working on a fancy-fold card for this week’s video, and chose Painted Poppies and the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper (DSP)! Poppies are one of my favourite flowers, especially red ones and also the yellow ones we have in our garden!
The design of today’s card is the same as a card I made a few years ago but with a change of flowers. I’m not 100% certain but I think my original card and the video featured Pacific Point cornflowers – another favourite flower of mine. I used the Bricks & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder which is very similar to the brick-patterned embossing folder I’d used back then!
I think I added a fly/bee/butterfly stamped on the wall, too. Before I started my card yesterday, I embossed a piece of Whisper White Cardstock (CS) to check whether it was too deeply embossed to be used on a stamped and painted image. It looked superb, so I went ahead with my plan. I stamped a row of poppies on a layer of Whisper White CS using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I had decided to use the pen end of the Stampin’ Blends for colouring the poppies.
Although my colouring isn’t perfect, I was pleased with how it turned out. I used the Light Mossy Meadow Blend for the stems and leaves, the Dark Poppy Parade Blend for the poppy buds, and Light and Dark Poppy Parade Blends for the open poppies. When I was editing my photographs I noticed I should have paid more attention to the black part of the buds because it’s easy to see where I went over the black area very roughly with my Blend!
As much as I like the Poppy Parade 1/2″ Textured Weave Ribbon, I would have preferred a more narrow ribbon, but never mind, it still looks good. It’s such an easy ribbon to tie in a bow! The HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment I’ve used is from the Itty Bitty Birthday Stamp Set. Using Black Memento Ink, I stamped it onto a strip of Whisper White CS. It only just about fits into the Classic Label Punch, but as before, never mind, it still looks good!
Before I started making any cards yesterday using the Painted Poppies Stamp Set, I used Black Memento Ink to stamp on Whisper White CS one large and one medium poppy, one each of the leaves and one of the large poppies using Black Stazon Ink. I painted the first four images using Stampin’ Blends in Poppy Parade and Mossy Meadow as appropriate. Then I coloured the Stazon-stamped Poppy using Poppy Parade Ink and the “splodge ” stamp. It looked brilliant!
Next, I used dies from the Painted Labels Dies to die-cut the poppies as well as the single leaf; there isn’t a die that cuts the cluster of five leaves. I found the die-cut Blends-painted poppies looked fabulous, but the large poppy that had been painted with the splodge stamp did not look nice die-cut! This is one of those things that may well just be my opinion and you totally disagree with me. ☺
I have taken photographs to try and demonstrate what I mean but you may need to test it yourself. Going forward I’ll only be using the splodge stamp for poppies I won’t be die-cutting. Do the photographs help understand what I’m trying to explain? Without a doubt this bundle – stamps, dies, DSP, elements, etc. – will be my most used bundle from the Mini Catalogue. I wonder what yours will be?

These two poppies have been stamped directly onto Whisper White CS and not die-cut. I think they look better when all the splodge stamp is visible even when it’s been stamped at a different angle. What do you think?
Before I go, don’t forget that all orders from now until 31st March 2020 will earn one level-one gift for EVERY €60/£45 of your order. That is, if your order is €120/£90 you’ll earn two level-one gifts or one level-two gift. If your order is €180/£135 you can choose three level-one gifts or one level-one and one level-two gifts. And so it goes on! This principle applies in the North American and South Pacific markets as well!
When you place your order, before you check out, please check the total of your order. You may find that by adding a small consumable like a bottle of Tombow, or a packet of Dimensionals you will be entitled to an extra gift! If you’re in the European market and would like to know more about buying a Starter Kit, please contact me at janb@janbcards.com or +44 7889 059439.
That’s about it from me! I hope you have a fabulous Friday, and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, happy crafting.
JanB. xx

Love the card Jan. I do like the way you take the photographs because we can see just exactly how you have done it. The bow is perfect. Better than I could do, but practice, practice & practice makes perfect. You are there my dear. TYFS
Many thanks, Claire. A lot of things I do are very much of “do as you would be done unto”! Like you say, if I give close up shots, it helps to understand easier. What’s the saying? Every picture speaks a thousand words? As far as the bow is concerned, before I started to get serious about Stampin’ Up! as a business, I used to accept commissions for wedding stationery! I wish I had a pound for every bow I’ve tied! LOL! xx
blotch of paint then stamped the outline of the poppy on the top. Sorry I’ve never heard the name Sorry but what’s Splodgestampis that how you have put down to
Hi, Corinne. Sorry but splodge is a name I give to stamps that stamp an image that looks like a splodge (splash?) of paint. It’s really an infill stamp, that is it fills in the image that gets stamped first> I hope I’ve explained it OK for you. xx
