Hello, Crafters.
The Peaceful Poppies is a brilliant pack of Designer Series Paper (DSP), and one of my favourite designs is the sheet I’ve used to make today’s card. I imagine there have been a lot of home decor projects made using this design. If the design had been any bigger, I wouldn’t have been able to use it for today’s card. When I first started doing the calculations and working out how much of the design I could use, I wasn’t sure that my idea was going to work!
But as the saying goes “I’ve started, so I’ll finish!” The Whisper White Cardstock (CS) layer beneath the panels has been embossed with the 3D Stone Embossing Folder. Next, I adhered it to a layer of Real Red CS. I thought about adhering the panels and wrapping some ribbon all the way around, finishing it tied in a bow at the front but I dismissed the idea! The reason was that I wanted to adhere the panels with Dimensionals but I thought the two ideas clashed!
experimented with the ribbon by tying a piece around one panel and tying it in a bow. There’s no doubt in my mind it would look lovely but only if a narrower ribbon was used e.g. 1/8″ or 1/4″ wide. My next idea was to adhere some Pearls or Rhinestones on the ribbon, but I remembered the Peaceful Poppies Sequins and decided to use them instead.
It was rather fiddly sorting them out but well worth the effort! I sorted out three black flower sequins, three frosted white and three gold. I lined them on each column but changed my mind and went for the red flower sequins, three randomly on each panel, placed so they look balanced overall! To complete the flower sequins, after I had adhered them in position using Tombow, I added a small pearl in the centre and pressed them down to make sure they were stuck to Tombow.
I think the main thing to remember when doing a project like this is to make sure you keep the three panels in the right order! The impact of this design comes from the fact it’s one picture mounted in three sections! To finish the front of the card, I stamped HAPPY BIRTHDAY from the Piece of Cake Stamp Set using Black Memento Ink onto a piece of Whisper White CS. I punched it out with the Classic Label Punch.
The sentiment was a bit too long so I put it back into the punch and snipped the ends off. I adhered it to the centre panel using Dimensionals. I added one layer each of Real Red and Whisper White CS inside the card. To decorate the top layer, I fussy cut a single stem poppy and adhered it in the bottom right-hand corner using Tombow.
This card would definitely look better if I had made it as a larger card, probably a 5″ x 3″. I thought this may be the case when I first started working on it but I was committed and kept going! I will put the sizes of the panels for an A6 card below my signature. Unfortunately, I don’t know what measurements you would use for a US card.
That’s it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and in the meantime, happy crafting.
JanB. xx
