Hello, Crafters.
Yesterday afternoon I Googled meerkats to find out a bit about them because I knew nothing! I found out that a group of them are called a gang or a mob, and that they also come from Africa. Here endeth today’s lesson! LOL! My main reason for doing this was to find out what design of Designer Series Paper (DSP) would be best suited for a meerkat card. I decided Tropical Oasis DSP would be ideal!
The two designs of the Tropical Oasis DSP shown on my card are back to back designs. To calculate the size of cardstock (CS) for each piece is cut layer 2 specified in the list below my signature, and then cut it in half! That is, A4 users cut at 1 7/8″ so both pieces will measure 5 3/8″ x 1 7/8″ and letter-size users cut on your 3 7/8″ inch side at 2″ so you have one piece that measures 5 1/8″ x 2″ and one that measures 5 1/8″ x 1 7/8″. The slight difference will be hidden by the ribbon.
I chose Pretty Peacock CS for my card base, with a layer of Whisper White CS and a top layer of Tropical Oasis DSP for the top layer, cut as detailed in the previous paragraph. The ribbon is the ½” Scalloped Linen Ribbon with Pretty Peacock edging. This ribbon comes in all the five newest in-colours for 2019 – 2021, i.e. Rococo Rose, Purple Posy, Seaside Spray and Terracotta Tile – a great selection of colours; I love them all.
I painted today’s image of the meerkats on Monday when I was designing the Valentine Card I shared with you yesterday. My technique was to use the Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend to colour the meerkats, and then I painted around the inside of the meerkats still using the Light Blend. I used the Dark Crumb Cake for the ground which gives an idea of how dark the meerkats would have been if I’d used it on them!
To complete the image, I went around the outside of the meerkats with my Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blend which is on its last legs – I don’t know how much longer it’s going to last! Fortunately, I have started keeping a supply of new Stampin’ Blends in the colours I use most so I never run out! The HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment is from the sentiment in the stamp set HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A STAND-UP FRIEND. I was pleased to find that I could punch it out using the Classic Label Punch.
I’m not one for adding party hats or balloons but I decided that apart from the sentiment there’s nothing about this card that says “birthday”. I stamped and fussy cut four party hats using Pretty Peacock Ink. They were relatively easy to fussy cut except for the size which made them fiddly. My suggestion with fussy cutting like this is to cut the fussiest part first, in this case, the bobble on the hat, while it’s still on a reasonably sized piece of Whisper White CS!
I adhered the image and the sentiment on the front of the card using Dimensionals. Then I adhered the three party hats using Tombow. Inside the card, I added a layer of Whisper White CS for the greeting. I still had another stamped but unpainted image of the group of meerkats from yesterday’s card, so I decided to paint and fussy cut the birthday-meerkat, add a birthday hat, and then adhere him in the bottom right-hand corner.
That’s about it from me today. This morning I’m meeting up with my daughter Vicki for coffee. She doesn’t know yet, but I’ll be asking her for a quick tutorial on using Instagram! I think something has been changed because I don’t seem to be able to post my cards anymore! I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday, and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, happy crafting.
JanB. xx

I have been off my feet with a bad back – but I make sure to look at your cards every day.
I love them!
You go to so much trouble to find out what your followers would like and also do what you did today to search out information.
Great Job, Jan xoxo
Hi, Candy. I’m so sorry you have a problem with your back and pray for a speedy recovery for you! You are all worth the effort! 💖 xx
Soooooo cute Jan. I love the little one with the party hat. It made me giggle.
Yes, he looks quite bashful, doesn’t he! xx
This is just simply cute Jan & actually these little guys are doing a great job. Love the faces. Lovely card.
Many thanks, Claire. I often complain that Stampin’ Up! give us characters with closed eyes. Now they’ve gone the other way and given these cuties really pretty eyes – no, this isn’t a complaint! LOL! xx
