Hello, Crafters.
I wonder if you remember the January colour challenge I joined in with? The colours were Pear Pizzazz, Crushed Curry and Poppy Parade. I made a card with red and yellow poppies with green leaves. When I first saw the three colours, I thought Oh no! The February colours are Night of Navy, Garden Green and Blushing Bride. So I planned pink flowers, green leaves and a blue background. Breaking the colours down like this made the challenge so much easier!
The birthday card above is the January challenge card, and below is the February challenge. I would never have put these three colours together but I think it has worked out brilliantly! Many thanks for setting up this challenge Val! The flower and leaves were going to be the easy bit to work out but I wasn’t sure what I was going to do about the Night of Navy. I decided to have a look at my Designer Series Paper (DSP) for something in this colour and found it in Come Sail Away (DSP).
I chose to use the Lovely Lily Pad stamp set which is available as a Sale-a-bration (SAB) gift. The matching set of dies is also available as a SAB gift although the shapes are very easy to fussy-cut. To complete this suite there’s also a pack of DSP called Lily Impressions, again available as a SAB gift. My Blushing Bride Ink Pad was quite dry, so I re-inked it and started stamping and then found my pad was too wet!! It’s never a good idea to re-ink pads immediately before using!
As the images dried, they all looked good so I die-cut all SIX of them! I didn’t want to use them as large as they are so I cut off the lower five outer petals. Next, I fussy-cut the rest of the edges off. This was very easy and made the overall size quite a bit smaller! I also die-cut several leaves in the shape of the letter “T” using Garden Green CS. Before I adhered them at the back of the lily, I shortened the stem to stop it peeking over the top of the lily!
I also separated a pair of leaves and added to the lilies so they had three each. I prepared a third lily in the same format for the inside of the card but restricted it to two leaves. I chose the sentiment from the Delightful Day Stamp Set which is from the beginner’s small catalogue. Click on the link to view the catalogue. I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy Ink on a piece of Whisper White CS and used Blushing Bride and Garden Green Stampin’ Write Marker Pens to colour in the confetti.
Next, I was ready to put my card together. I started with a Whisper White CS card base, then a layer of Night of Navy CS, and then a layer of Whisper White CS. On the front of the card, I embossed the top half of the top layer using the Subtle Dynamic (now 3D) Embossing Folder. I had meant to cut off the bottom half but I forgot!! I cut a piece of the Night of Navy and Whisper White stripe design DSP to fit the other half of the top layer.
I adhered a strip of Night of Navy CS that I had die-cut using the strap die from the All Dressed Up Dies across the join of the CS and the DSP. Using Dimensionals I adhered the sentiment – WISHING YOU A DELIGHTFUL DAY – on the Whisper White embossed section, and then the two lilies on the DSP section. To finish the front of today’s card I added a row of large pearls across the Night of Navy strap, and also a set of three smaller pearls – top and bottom – on the sentiment.
Inside the card, I adhered the third lily in the bottom right-hand corner. If you compare the leaves on this lily to the two on the front of the card, you’ll see why I only added two on this one! Considering I thought this was going to be a tough challenge with the three clours chosen, it turned out surprisingly easy and I love the card I’ve created!
Yesterday, I told you I was looking forward to meeting the newest member of my Super Stars Team. Unfortunately, it had to be cancelled because there was a sudden bereavement in her family early that morning. That’s it from me today. I shall be back with you in the morning, and in the meantime, happy crafting.
JanB. xx
