Hello, Crafters.
I hope you’re enjoying the weekend. If you’re in the UK, I pray you haven’t been adversely affected by Storm Dennis. If you watch today’s video you’ll hear the storm whistling past my studio window. I’ve never heard it as loud as this before and I don’t think my camcorder has ever picked it up as loudly either. The forecast is that Storm Dennis will be with us for three days! Today is day 2! Stay safe, Crafters.
Today’s card was inspired by a card I saw made by Debbie Henderson, who is a demonstrator in the US. This is Debbie’s blog link if you’d like to check her out: https://debbiesdesignsblog.blogspot.com/. I put my own spin on the card which including adding an extra layer and I added a ribbon to tie the triple-fold part of the card closed. The reason my needs help staying closed is – I believe – because I have two layers on each “page”, which makes my card that much thicker.
Another change I made was to add a support stand to the back of the card. The base sheet is a single sheet of cardstock plus layers, and I did consider making the base sheet a regular single sheet fold card. This would have made the stand unnecessary and it would also have provided plenty of space to write a greeting or to add more sentiments.
Another change I made to my card was to use just two designs of DSP rather than five i.e. one for each sheet! I alternated the two designs so, from the front of the closed card, only one design is visible. I think it would be better if I added some kind of embellishments. I’ll have a look at this later today. I’ll also have a look at the first card I made using the Sailing Home Stamp Set; I know I have some trinkets for this set.
The colour scheme I used for my first card is Night of Navy Cardstock (CS), Crumb Cake CS and Whisper White CS – they certainly make a great colour combo. This is definitely a masculine card – although there are also women sailors – whereas the card I made on the video would be suitable for men and women; I think most people like animals!
Although I showed the Petal Pink Grace’s Garden card in the video, I wasn’t happy with it at all! If anything could go wrong while I was making it, it did! I was able to correct the boo-boos as I went along, but by the time I’d finished the card, I felt it was a real bodge-up! It’s extremely rare that I ever feel like this, but with this card, any cardmaker could look at it and see what the mistakes were! The sentiment is from a stamp set called Delightful Day which is in the beginner’s catalogue Called Experience Creativity. Please click the link to see the catalogue, and contact your demonstrator

Love the cards
Many thanks, Etta. xx
Jan, what a beautiful card. Sorry a few days behind as have had a friends emergency (but all good now). Just love this design. I wonder how it would go with instead of having just a flat back piece of cardstock if having a top folding card with the panels attached to the front. (hope I am describing it properly). Haven’t made it yet, but I wonder if that would make it stand upright more without the stand at the back (but I just love the idea of the stand). Just adore this card and will make your version before you respond to my adaptation. You are the expert not me the beginner of 1.5 years. XX M
Hi, Mal. I’m pleased all is well with your friend now. Yes, you could add a tent fold card adhered to the back but I think the weight of the card on the front might make the card do the splits! You could avoid this if you used a tab, say 1/2″ x 2 1/2″, and adhere one end to the inside front of the tent card and the other end to the inside back of the tent card. I did toy with the idea of putting a regular single fold card on the back but the weight of the card would topple it over. Thanks for your suggestion and please keep them coming. 😀 xxx
Guess what? Your suggestion of having that little “bridge” worked well and I made it again with your stand and it was sooo much better. My idea of what I now know is a tent fold was a failure. But I learnt how to make a stand for a card, so thank you. XX M
Hi Jan, Thank you for taking the time to make and share yours and Debbie’s ideas with us! I’m grateful! I had quite a lot of problems understanding your measurements. I really messed that up. Big TIME! So, I hate to ask, but, I really want to make this card, would you Please send me an email, or something to list ALL the paper cuts? I really hate to ask, as there’s so many, but, if I don’t, I can’t make this card. I proaly didn’t understand what you said, because I do have a hearing problem, that’s why I use Closed-Captioning! But, it didn’t help here. I loved all three of your cards, and I’m not a fan of greens. But, even the green card was quite lovely. You made it perfectly! I’d love to send you one, after I make it, of course. I’ll be coming to England and Wales in June and would love to meet you if that’s okay? If not, I understand.
Again, Thank you for being so awesome! I’m really sorry to have to ask you this, and I do apologize for it. That storm was nasty! Thankful no one was hurt!
Hi, Gloria. Unfortunately, I live a long distance way from Wales. I’m not sure, and it depends where you’re visiting in Wales, but it’s about a five-hour drive! All the measurements you need for this card are listed in the box below the video. To access the box, you need to be watching the video on YouTube. Next, it depends what device you’re watching on. If it’s a PC or laptop, you will see, on the left-hand side, about three lines of writing under the video, and then you’ll see SHOW MORE. Click on it and the box will open, then you can do a copy & paste of the measurements, scorelines and products I’ve used on to a Word document. If you’re watching on a mobile phone (cell phone) you will see a down arrow on the right-hand side of the screen, click on it and it will open the box. I hope this works for you. xx
Such pretty cards, each one like a work of art, each with a different story. I love the nautical one the best, but they are all so different. I can’t wait to give this card a try.
Many thanks, Mary. I love making masculine cards with the Sailing Home Stamp Set. xx
Love these cards…thanks for the great idea about adding the support to the back…I have relatives who will be celebratig their 50th wedding and think this would be great as I can put then and now photos in it…many regards…
Many thanks, Katrina. It’s a fabulous card for including photographs! Enjoy! xx
