Hello, Crafters.
I hope you’ve enjoyed a super weekend. Yesterday I started working on my online customer’s handmade thank you gifts. Without giving away too much, I chose to use my Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) which is one of the Sale-a-bration (SAB) gifts available for qualifying orders until 31st March 2020. I was left with one complete sheet and small off-cuts! LOL!
When I decided I was going to make today’s card using the Peaceful Poppies Elements I thought how the card could look with the black and white stripe design from the Golden Honey DSP. The only reasonably sized off-cut was about 4″ x 4″ and given that the size of a standard UK card is 5¾” x 4 1/8″ I would have to cut it much smaller to make it suitable!
I went for the alternative option which was a card more suitable for this size of DSP! I chose 5¾” x 5¾” because this can be cut from an A4 sheet of cardstock (US equivalent would be 5½” x 5½”). I cut the Real Red Cardstock (CS) layer at 5½” x 5½” (US 5¼” x 5¼”) and then a Whisper White CS layer 5¼” x 5¼” (US 5″ x 5″). If you’re following US sizes, from this point I recommend you follow the UK sizes or your DSP may be too small for the same images I’ve used!
The Real Red CS layer is 4″ x 4″ and the Black and White Striped DSP was trimmed to 3¾” x 3¾”. The black doily is from the Peaceful Poppies Elements and I heat-embossed it with the HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment, which is from the Magnolia Blooms Stamp Set, using the White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I adhered it to one of our Pearlized Doilies (146936 – page 169).
Next, I took the tall poppy, bud and leaf element (with the bud on the left-hand side) and adhered it in the bottom right-hand corner of the striped DSP, positioning it about ¾” up from the bottom edge of the DSP. Then I took another element which was one large and one small poppy with leaves (with the small poppy on the left-hand side) and adhered it using Dimensionals over the tall poppy towards the base of the DSP.
My final touch for the front of my card was to add a small bow – made with some retired Stampin’ Up! ribbon – beneath the sentiment. Inside the card, I added two layers of cardstock which measure the same sizes as the largest Real Red CS and Whisper White CS layers on the front of the card. I decorated the bottom right-hand quarter with the same two poppy elements I used on the front of the card.
The Peaceful Poppies Element pack contains eight sheets of elements, that’s two sheets each of four designs: 1). Two sheets of ten coloured poppy elements; 2). Two sheets of seven black elements (two doilies, two blank sentiment fishtailed labels, three decorative trims; 3). Two sheets of twenty-eight white-embossed vellum poppies and leaves; 4). Two sheets of the same white-embossed images but on watercolour cardstock.
I have always said I don’t like using “toppers” on my cards but the kind of toppers Stampin’ Up! produce really are something else. I can’t wait to have a go with the vellum and the watercolour paper images. My final comment for today is that without a doubt, my favourite colour combo is red, black and white! That’s it from me today. I hope you have a super week and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, happy crafting.
