Hello, Crafters.
When I was making the card I shared yesterday morning – To A Wild Rose & Flowering Foils – I did something for my card and I thought this would be a great “thing” to use for Sunday’s video. I was confident I could incorporate it into a great card idea. Needless to say, I was somewhat impatient to get started on it yesterday to see if my idea would work! And it does! My plans for today are to do a test card first and then make the video!
To create today’s card I used the third design out of four of the Flowering Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP). All the foils are white with silver and/or rose gold foil. To colour the background I used a Sponge Brayer with Petal Pink Ink. When Stampin’ Up! introduced the Sponge Brayers I wasn’t impressed, to say the least! I don’t remember where I was when I first tried them but I was hooked! They are absolutely brilliant, they wash out easily and air dry in next to no time!
I wiped over the DSP to remove the excess ink that was on the foiling and adhered it to a layer of Whisper White Cardstock (CS). I wrapped a length of 1/4″ Petal Pink Metallic-edge Ribbon and tied it in a bow which I positioned towards the right-hand side. The metal in the ribbon is Champagne and goes very well with the foiling in the DSP. It wouldn’t look out of place with gold, either. I used Tombow and adhered these layers to a Petal Pink CS card base.
I took a piece of Whisper White CS and stamped the raccoon in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and stamped the body infill stamp with Sahara Sand Ink. Next, I stamped the mouse a little distance away from the raccoon and stamped his body infill stamp using Smokey Slate Ink. I wanted the mouse to be handing him a balloon and needed a mask for the mouse. I stamped him on the sticky part of a PostIt Note and cut him out.
After putting the mask over the mouse I stamped the balloon string to go on his right paw. The string fell a bit short so I drew the rest of it in place using the tip end of my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. Next, I stamped the outline balloon and then the infill balloon using Petal Pink Ink. I used the Dark Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blend to colour some grass for the critters to stand on, and my Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blend to define the outline of them both.
After checking several dies I decided the Layering Square Dies would be best for my image. The largest straight cut die was ideal for the image and then the largest scalloped die for a Petal Pink CS layer. Although cardmaking is (probably) the most relaxing hobby ever, there are times when it pays to concentrate on what you’re doing! Yes, you’re right, the Petal Pink didn’t show up against the background!! Rewind! Use Whisper White CS – what an amazing difference! LOL!
The sentiment is from the Special Someone Stamp Set and as it’s small I was able to stamp it directly above the raccoon using Tuxedo Black Ink. Next, I adhered the image over the ribbon using Dimensionals and trimmed the tails of the ribbon to a sensible length. My final touch for the front of the card was to add three of the larger Champagne Rhinestones vertically in the top right-hand corner.
For the inside of the card, I added a layer of Whisper White CS and a layer of Petal Pink CS on top. I love the animals in the Special Someone Stamp Set, even more so now that matching dies are available (153587)! Quite often when I decorate the inside of my cards if it’s an option, I prefer to stamp my image/s onto a scrap of (normally) Whisper White CS and then die-cut them. This way if I make a mistake I can redo them!
I hope you have a fabulous weekend. That’s it from me today, and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, In the meantime, happy crafting.
JanB. xx

Jan what an adorable card but one with lots of twists for a beginner. The brayering for one. Just searcheď yr website for any videos containing brayering and at a quick glance cant find any but i know u have shown this previously so will continue to search. We are off late monday to help blue mountains post fire so may not have coverage for those 3 weeks. Yr videos and blogs will be welcome when i can get to them. Hugs m m dj
Many thanks, Mal. I always appreciate your feedback from a beginner’s point of view. Yes, I have covered brayering before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRzUYb9b0ng . The techniques you’ve mentioned recently, i.e. thumping and brayering, I will see if I can combine them with other projects. I pray your trip to the Blur Mountains is highly successful. God bless you, Mal! 💖 xxx
Thank you sincerely Jan for finding this video. I knew you had completed a card using brayering but I did not go back far enough. I can definitely do that. I did do the “thumping” and thank goodness I invested in a stamparatus as that was a lifesaver for me.
May be quiet for a few weeks whilst I am volunteering so will look forward to catching up with you and your cards upon my return. I am not certain about wi-fi availability where we are going. I am the one blessed being able to help out our Aussie animals. XX Mal, Maddi, Dame Joan (who are both coming with me!!)
No worries, Mal. I’m pleased you’ve been able to take your family with you! Take good care while you’re away, and I’ll look forward to catching up with you when you get back. xxx.
