Hello, Crafters.
I hope you’ve had a great weekend. Yesterday I used the Layered With Kindness Stamp for the first time, which brings my total of unused stamp sets down to fifteen! The leaves and the flowers in this set are gorgeous; the details are amazing! I’m not sure what this technique is called but I haven’t used it for ages! The success of the technique is largely down to the way the paper is torn for the masking. It needs to be torn enough but without very dramatic peaks and troughs!
I use a piece of computer paper from my recycle tray and tear it in half; then I tear one half about a third of the way down creating a selection of ups and downs. Next, I tear across halfway down on the larger piece so I can use two different pieces of torn paper. You can tear one piece and use both sides but you must remember to stagger them so it isn’t obvious that the two pieces would match up if they were lined up together!
I used temporary adhesive to hold each piece of torn paper in place on my top layer of Whisper White Cardstock (CS). Next, I used a Dauber and sponged the gap between the two torn edges using Granny Apple Green Ink. When I was happy with the colour, I left the two pieces of torn paper in place and stamped over the gap using the large leaf stamp. When I was happy with the result, I stopped stamping and removed the torn paper.
I always feel a sense of wow when I do the big reveal; the edges always look so crisp. My plans for this card didn’t go any further than this and it needed quite a few things, or so I thought, to finish it off. Using Rococo Rose Ink I stamped seven of the flowers and fussy cut them, and then I looked for a birthday sentiment. I seem to be reaching for my Perennial Birthday Stamp Set for all my recent birthday sentiments and yesterday I chose BIRTHDAY CHEERS ALL AROUND.
Using Granny Apple Green Ink, I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Whisper White CS and die-cut it using the Stitched Rectangle slim die no 2. I also used die no 3 to die-cut a layer in Granny Apple Green, but it was too large for my card front! Before I added the sentiment I wanted to wrap some ribbon around the front of the card but could only find the Scalloped Linen Ribbon in Rococo Rose.
I decided to trim off the scalloped part of the ribbon and to add one strip each to the top and bottom of the top Whisper White CS layer. Next, I played with where to adhere the flowers and how many to use. I settled on five and eventually settled on the positions you can see. There was too much exposed plain white cardstock for my liking so I decided to stamp some very small butterflies using Granny Apple Green Ink.
The two butterflies I used are from the Special Someone Stamp Set. To build my card I took a Whisper White CS card base, a layer of Granny Apple Green CS and the top Whisper White CS image layer. I used Tombow to add the ribbon to the top and bottom of the top layer, and Dimensionals for the flowers and the sentiment. In the centre of each flower, I added a Melon Mambo Rhinestone from the Noble Peacock Rhinestones. They blend in well with the Rococo Rose Ink.
To finish off the front of the card I painted the flowers and the leaves using my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter pen. I took a tap layer of Whisper White CS for the inside of my card and stamped the leaf stamp at various heights along the bottom. I also adhered the last flower in the bottom right-hand corner. There should have been another leftover flower but I used it on the first top layer I made for this card but stamped the leaves as if it was a vertical card! Grrr!
Inside the card, I adhered a layer of Granny Apple Green CS and then the decorated Whisper White CS layer. To finish off the inside I painted the flower and the leaves using my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter pen. That’s it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and in the meantime, happy crafting.
