Hello, Crafters.
Yesterday I was asked if I could make a sympathy card and my choice of a stamp set was Flourishing Phrases but then I thought of the newer Positive Thoughts Stamp Set. I chose Sahara Sand and Whisper White as my colour scheme. I took a top layer of Whisper White Cardstock (CS) and a top layer of Sahara Sand CS. As I was indecisive about which colour I wanted to use, I decided to tear the Sahara Sand in half from top to bottom and layer it onto the Whisper White CS layer.
I used the fern stamp with Sahara Sand Ink and stamped randomly on the left-hand side of the Sahara Sand torn CS panel. Next, I used the Subtle Dynamic/3D Embossing Folder on the Whisper White CS layer and then adhered the stamped, torn half of Sahara Sand to the embossed Whisper White CS. I stamped three ferns and two chrysanthemums on scraps of Whisper White CS using Sahara Sand Ink.
I die cut the images using dies from the Nature’s Thoughts Dies and I stamped the WITH SYMPATHY sentiment from the Flourishing Phrases Stamp Set. I used Sahara Sand Ink on a scrap of Sahara Sand CS – tone on tone – and die cut it using the no. 1 die of the regular rectangle dies from the Stitched Rectangle Dies. Then it was time to start playing with my die cuts and coming up with a design I liked.
I couldn’t find a way to include a flower without making my card look overcrowded, so I have two flowers and one fern leftover for another project! Inside the card I added a layer of Whisper White CS and a top layer of Sahara Sand CS. I stamped each corner, tone on tone, with my favourite corner stamp from the Hold On To Hope Stamp Set.
As I was writing the last two paragraphs, I stopped to listen to Boris Johnson, our Prime Minister make a ministerial broadcast on TV. He has effectively put the UK on partial lockdown. Hubby and I have been socially distancing ourselves since last Monday and welcome the PM’s decision! Unfortunately, here in the UK, like some other countries, we have hundreds of thousands of people who just don’t get the seriousness of COVID-19!
They have totally ignored what the PM has been saying in his daily TV announcements and carried on life as normal. The newspapers have printed photographs of beaches, parks, markets, etc that were packed! The PM has said we now have to stay at home and are only allowed out to buy food, medicines and other essentials (infrequently), to exercise once a day i.e. a walk, run or cycle, any medical need, to go to work if we’re a keyworker, or to provide care or help a vulnerable person.
The police have been given powers to disperse people if they see a group of more than two people (more if they are from the same household). Watch this space to see what happens next! That’s it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and in the meantime stay safe, stay well and happy crafting!
