Hello, Crafters.
Today’s card uses some of the Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper (DSP). Out of all the fabulous designs in this suite, this is my favourite. I think it’s very striking with the black background, and the magnolia flower heads are very well spaced-out. I was a bit apprehensive about using this design because I wasn’t sure it would work, and I did consider using the other black background design which has more magnolia flower heads. I’m happy how my first choice worked well!
I started with a Petal Pink Cardstock (CS) card base, and the first layer – Whisper White CS – is the same height as the card but 1″ narrower than the card front. I cut the DSP to be 1/8th of an inch narrower than the Whisper White CS layer but I should have made it one-quarter of an inch narrower. If I had used a narrower piece of DSP, the Whisper White edging which is exposed under the DSP would be wider and would then match the Whisper White CS width exposed on the circle.
I stamped the magnolia image from the Good Morning Magnolia Stamp Set onto a scrap of Whisper White CS using Tuxedo Black Ink. Since Stampin’ Up! brought out the Stampin’ Blends, they have been my favourite way of colouring! I used the Light Soft Suede Blend for the stem; the Light and Dark Mossy Meadow Blends for the leaves; and the Light and Dark Petal Pink Blends for the magnolia.
I die-cut the image using the die from the Magnolia Memory Dies and mounted it using Dimensionals onto a Petal Pink CS circle that I’d die-cut using the Stitched Shapes circle die no 3. This was then adhered onto a Whisper White CS circle I’d die-cut using the Layering Circles straight-cut die no. 7. Using Dimensionals again I adhered the image and circles to the left-hand side of the card front.
The sentiment I chose BIRTHDAY CHEERS ALL AROUND is from the Perennial Birthday Stamp Set (ret annual page 66). I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of Whisper White CS using Memento Black Ink, and then die-cut it using the no. 2 slim die from the Rectangle Stitched Dies. Using Dimensionals I adhered the sentiment just below the image circles, with just the top left-hand corner of the sentiment overlapping the lower edge of the circles.
When I stamped and painted the magnolia for the front of the card, I actually did two images. Once I had adhered a Whisper White CS layer inside the card, I adhered the second die-cut magnolia in the bottom right-hand corner. I’ve lost count of how many of these magnolias I have stamped and painted. It’s such an easy image to paint and an absolute delight to decorate cards with. I’m so pleased the stamp set and dies are being carried forward!
