Hello, Crafters.
Yesterday, here in the UK we had it confirmed that we’re in lockdown for at least another three weeks! Although I’m not excited about the prospect of another three weeks of isolation, I do believe it’s the right thing to do! I count my blessings like I’m sure many other crafters do, that I have a hobby that keeps me happy all day long!
While I was working/crafting yesterday – it’s very difficult to distinguish between these two! – I saw a video made by Lisa Curcio, US demonstrator, about a year ago. It was about using up scraps of cardstock (CS) and Designer Series Paper (DSP). I thought this was a great idea as we’ll soon be getting the retirement list for the current annual catalogue which retires on 2nd June 2020.
I chose the Mosaic Mood Specialty DSP because it’s in the top tray of my DSP storage unit and I planned to start from the top and work my way through all the DSP I have. As you can see from today’s card, I became sidetracked and made a card using the DSP, rather than using scraps! I chose Terracotta Tile as my colour base because I wanted to use the mosaic background paper and the Terracotta Tile rose.
After Wednesday’s marathon fussy-cutting experience when I cut fourteen handbags and purses, yesterday I did just five images although the two bees were an effort! I found the Whisper White CS label and white frame in my box of “shapes die-cut but not used”! Using Terracotta Tile Ink I stamped the HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment, which is from the Magnolia Blooms Stamp Set, in the bottom left-hand corner of the Whisper White label.
Now that I knew what I was doing I started to put my card together starting with a Terracotta Tile card base, a Whisper White CS middle layer and a Mosaic Mood DSP top layer. Using Tombow, I adhered the label and frame in the centre of the DSP layer, and adhered the fussy-cut rose in the bottom right-hand corner with a bee settled on the rose and another hovering above it!
I positioned the hummingbird so he was just above the sentiment with his beak pointing straight down into the rose. The Mosaic Mood DSP is a Specialty pack because one side of it is partially glossy. I think it shows up beautifully in the photographs. I didn’t plan it but the rose, the bees, the hummingbird, the background (top layer) and the rose inside the card are all from the shiny side of their DSP sheet!
To decorate the inside of the card I added a middle layer of Whisper White CS. I found the rose and the partial leaf in a corner of one of the partial sheets of DSP and fussy cut it to sit in the corner of my Whisper White CS layer. I think this was the first DSP design that I started to use partial images to decorate the inside of my cards. Previously I would only use complete images but when I did this the first time I thought it looked more natural – if you know what I mean!
That’s it from me today. I look forward to being back with you again tomorrow and in the meantime, please take care and stay safe! Happy crafting.
JanB. xx

Morning Jan,
This card is outstanding, just like you! Bless you. Can’t wait to try it.
Cathy G.
Many thanks, Cathy. I hope you are keeping safe and keeping well. xx
Shouldn’t it be one piece for the top layer? Thanks, Cathy
Hi, Cathy. Are you referring to “…………I adhered the label and frame in the centre of the DSP layer……………….”? I have re-read my blog and think this is quite ambiguous! But yes you are right, which you have already confirmed for yourself. If you are referring to a different sentence, please let me know so I can make sure my statements aren’t ambiguous. I really appreciate your feedback. xxx
I had so much fun making this today!
