Ornate Garden Wedding Card

Wedding and Anniversary Cards

4 Apr

Hello, Crafters.

I never imagined when I bought the Ornate Garden Suite that I’d use it to make a wedding card! The inspiration came when I saw the sample card for the Braided Border Punch, which is featured on page 29 of the Mini Catalogue. I saw the sample on Stampin’ Up!’s Pinterest account and I recognised it from the Mini because I’ve liked it ever since the first time I saw it. Maybe one day I’ll make the sample card!

The first decision I had to make was which die should I use because there’s a fantastic selection to choose from in the two Ornate Garden die sets, i.e. Ornate Layers Dies and Ornate Border Dies. I didn’t choose the easiest one! Instead, I chose two where one sat inside the other! They gave me a hard time because they kept moving! Post It Notes to the rescue – and yes, I was using my magnetic platform! – but I still needed to cut eight to get six straight ones!

I’m pleased I persevered with the “banners” because I’m happy with the finished card! I needed to introduce a colour for the sentiment and chose silver because I had a white and silver ribbon as well as the silver pearls. I cut the Whisper White Cardstock (CS) layer to fit the width of the banner and cut the height in proportion, i.e. 3 15/16″ x 5 9/16″. Our Paper Trimmer includes 16ths of an inch so it was easy to do.

To decide the size of the Silver Foil layer I added 1/8″ on both sides, i.e. 4 1/16″ x 5 11/16″. The card base size is 4 1/8″ x 5 3/4″.  To layer the banners evenly I adhered the first banner at the top without leaving any of the layer beneath exposed. I turned the layer 180° and did the same to the new top. To position the middle layer correctly, I lined the layer up along the left-hand side of my Grid Paper. It was easy to adhere the last two banners.

I chose the sentiment WISHING YOU EVERY HAPPINESS THIS SPECIAL DAY WILL BRING, which is from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set, but I wasn’t sure which die to use to cut it out. After checking the Ornate Garden Dies and deciding they were too big, I had a look at the Poppy Moments Dies which co-ordinates with the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set.

There wasn’t anything there, so I checked the Painted Labels Dies, which is in the same Peaceful Poppies Suite as the Poppy Moments Dies. I found the ideal die which fitted beautifully. It creates the impression of a layer on the die-cut! Before I started to put my card together, I tied a piece of white and silver Metallic Edge Ribbon around the first layer and tied it in a bow at the front. I slid the bow off to the left-hand side and then popped the sentiment up on Dimensionals.

They both fitted along the front beautifully! I adhered the top layer to the Silver Foil layer, and then onto the card base. To finish the front of the card, I added Silver Metallic Pearls in the centres of three flowers along the banners.  I added a Whisper White layer, then a Silver Foil layer inside the card. After I had adhered a banner at the bottom of the top Whisper White CS layer, I used a regular pencil to colour in the three circles to mimic the Silver Metallic Pearls on the front of the card.

That’s it from me today. I hope you have a great weekend. The weather forecast for the weekend is that it’s going to be very warm. I pray people don’t use it as an excuse not to stay indoors. The longer people keep going out, the longer this pandemic will go on! I look forward to being back with you tomorrow and in the meantime, stay safe and stay well. Happy crafting.

JanB. xx
