Hello, Crafters.
I’m sure everyone around the world has heard about the amazing Captain Tom Moore, UK war veteran who celebrated his 100th birthday yesterday. A little while ago he was treated in one of our wonderful NHS hospitals for skin cancer and a broken hip he sustained in a fall. To show his appreciation for the wonderful treatment he received from all the staff at the hospital, he set out to raise £1,000.00 for the NHS Charity.
He decided to walk around his garden 100 times, with the aid of his wheels (like a zimmer frame but on wheels). He surpassed his £1,000.00 and has now raised over £32million! Needless to say, he is a hero to all Brits and he has set an amazing example of total selflessness. For his birthday yesterday, he was honoured by the RAF with a flypast of a Hurricane and a Spitfire that went over Captain Tom’s house three times which he watched from his garden.
He received birthday greetings from the Queen and the Prime Minister, as well as approximately 140,000 birthday cards! The school his grandson Benjie goes to offered the services of staff to open all the cards and stand them in the Great Hall! The Army also promoted him to Honorary Colonel by the Chief of the General Staff. His duet with singer Michael Ball is No. 1 in the charts with the song You’ll Never Walk Alone. What a wonderful way to celebrate his 100th birthday!
And of course, because it was Thursday yesterday, at 8 pm most of the UK were outside their homes clapping their hands, banging dustbin lids, letting off fireworks, ringing bells to say thanks to our wonderful NHS and to all frontline workers, e.g. shop workers, postmen, refuse collectors, delivery men, etc., who go to work every day to keep essential services going.
The last day of the month is always the busiest day for me! Yesterday went well and I did all the things I needed to and I had time to make a card. Nothing fancy but I’m very pleased with it. The Blueberry Bushell Noble Peacock Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) has stunning foil accents on one side with a plain reverse. All twelve sheets, which come in three colours, have foil accents. The other two colours are Pretty Peacock and Old Olive.
I started with a Blueberry Bushel Cardstock (CS) card base, a layer of Whisper White CS and a top layer of the Noble Peacock DSP. After I had adhered the Whisper White CS layer and the Noble Peacock DSP layer together, I wrapped a piece of retired Old Olive Ribbon around the centre and secured it at the back. Next, I adhered it to the card base.
Using Blueberry Bushell Ink, I inked the double flower stamp from the Beautiful Friendship Stamp Set and stamped it onto a piece of Whisper White CS. Using Old Olive Ink I added the double leaf stamp twice on the left-hand side, and the triple leaf stamp once on the right-hand side. I used the BIRTHDAY WISHES sentiment from the Varied Vases Stamp Set (ret annual page 60) and stamped it once in Blueberry Bushel and once in Old Olive.
I die-cut them both using the no. 1 slim die from the Stitched Rectangle Dies. As you can guess I wasn’t sure which colour would look best – this way I could try both and have one leftover! LOL! I die cut the image using the largest die in the Stitched Nested Dies and adhered it to the front of the card using Dimensionals. Now I was able to see which sentiment I thought looked best and chose the blue.
After I had adhered the sentiment to the flower image using Dimensionals I added four Blueberry Bushell Rhinestones from the Noble Peacock Rhinestones (ret annual page 178). For the inside of the card, I stamped the single flower in the bottom right-hand corner of a Whisper White CS layer and then I made a mask for the flower so I could stamp some Old Olive leaves. Next, I adhered the layer inside the card.
It is quite a plain card but I’m very pleased with it because it looks quite striking! That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and in the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
