Hello, Crafters.
It’s only recently that I treated myself to the Beautiful Moments Stamp Set although it was released some time ago. I think it coincided with finding out that the Beautiful You Stamp Set would be retiring on 2nd June 2020. I’d found that stamp set amazingly versatile and created many cards with it when it especially when it was first released.
One of my favourite techniques with Beautiful You was paper piecing and it worked beautifully with all three images. For the mother and child’s dresses, I used Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper (DSP). If you’re new to paper piecing, the technique generally means stamping the image on plain cardstock and on DSP, then the dresses (in this case) are cut out from the DSP and adhered on to the cardstock.
I decided to put the image of the mother and child through the archway and gate which has been die-cut using a die from Garden Gateway dies which co-ordinate with Grace’s Garden Stamp Set. To make the arch look as if it was built into a wall I die-cut the arch from a top layer of Smokey Slate Cardstock (CS).
You wouldn’t believe how many brick walls and gates and archways I die-cut and/or embossed last night while I was trying to decide on what colours to use! Colours included Grey Granite, Soft Suede, Basic Grey and Smokey Slate. I glad it took me so long to decide because during this process I had a lightbulb moment when I decided to emboss the brick wall just as far down as ground level.
With hindsight, I think I was so indecisive about the colours because I wasn’t happy with the brick wall coming down to the bottom edge of the top layer! By the time I’d die-cut the final Smokey Slate arch with gate and then embossed the negative outside part of the cardstock down as far as the ground level I was so pleased with the result and went with Smokey Slate for both! And I’m pleased I did!
I stamped and coloured two climbing roses, a cat and a bird – can you see the bird? – using Stampin’ Blends. All three images have dies in the Garden Gateway Die set. The colours I used are roses – Light Mossy Meadow, Dark Petal Pink, cat – Light and Dark Smokey Slate, bird – Light Soft Suede.
I also used Blends to colour the mother and child. The colours I used are skin – Ivory, hair – Light and Dark Soft Suede, sand – Dark Crumb Cake, sky – Light Pool Party. I used the Brick and Mortar 3D Embossing Folder (EF) on the top layer after I had die-cut the archway and gate. I sprayed lightly with water and lined the edge of the EF just above the bottom cut edge of the gates.
This left a good straight space for me to add a sentiment. I chose HAPPY BIRTHDAY from the retiring Perennial Birthday Stamp Set. I’ll miss this stamp set! I wanted to add something to the sky, e.g. birds or butterflies from the Beautiful Moments Stamp Set but I get very nervous about not stamping a good image and thereby spoiling my whole card!
Yesterday I spent so long creating this card, I ran out of time and didn’t do anything to decorate the inside. I managed to adhere a middle layer of Whisper White CS and a top layer of Smokey Slate CS but that was it! Rather than do something quickly and wish I’d left well alone, I prefer to leave well alone and go back to it later!

Jan beautiful card. I am thinking that u stamped both girls and cut just inside the outline of the bodies. Am i on the right track. Not heard of this before but i do have the beautiful you stamp set which is well used. New technique to me. Xxx m
Hi, Mal. Yes, stamp one on cardstock and the second one on Designer Series Paper and then cut out the dresses – you cut on the black outline. Here’s a video I made using the technique on one of the ladies in the Beautiful You Stamp Set. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTFwdDsAxhI It’s one of my favourite techniques, partly because I enjoy fussy cutting! I hope you give it a go! xxx
