Hello, Crafters.
Yesterday I had another play with the Beautiful Moments Stamp Set. I dry embossed three Purple Posy Cardstock (CS) top layers before I found one that suited the Ornate Whisper White CS frame I used for the image! My first was embossed layer was Ornate Floral, next was Hammered Metal and the last and the best was Subtle – my favourite! I should have used it first!
The image I used on today’s card is my second attempt – sounds like I didn’t have a good day, doesn’t it! LOL! I used the same colour scheme as for the first image but I took the green grass too high which covered a large area of the dress and made the image look very much out of proportion. Lesson learned!
On the second image, I coloured the dress first and then coloured in the grass which gave me a much better result. It’s habit now that I stamp my images using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink because I love colouring using my Stampin’ Blends. As from the new catalogue which goes live next Wednesday, the Blends will only be sold as pairs, i.e. as Blends Combo.
The colours I used are dress – Light Purple Posy, grass – Dark Call Me Clover, flowers – Dark Highland Heather, sky – Light Pool Party, skin and hair – Ivory. I wanted the lady to have blonde hair and settled for fair hair by using the Ivory Blend and colouring over it three times. The HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment is from the Special Someone Stamp Set.
To get the uneven blue sky, I used the Light Pool Party Blend to do a blue edge about 3/8″ wide all around the image. Then I went around a second time doing an additional 3/8″ added to the first outline. I kept going until I had filled as much sky as I needed and it dried in a very “blotchy” manner which has given a great uneven look.
To cut the image to the size I needed I laid the Ornate die over it and drew a pencil line around the inside of the die. Then I was able to use my trimmer to cut along the pencil marks. I needed to use my eraser to remove some pencil marks that were left behind but the image was a great size for sitting in the frame!
I put my card together with the middle and top layers on the front but something was lacking! Obviously I didn’t have much room to add something and I played around with a few options until I came up with my final choice which was to add three strips of the ½” Purple Posy Scalloped Linen Ribbon ribbon across the front of the card so they went under the picture frame.
To decorate the inside of the card, I used the small clump of flowers stamp and stamped along the bottom edge of the Purple Posy CS top layer. I coloured the flowers as before and used the pen end of the Call Me Clover Stampin’ Blend to draw along each blade of grass and each stem. I adhered this layer onto a middle Whisper White CS layer and adhered both inside my card. My final touch was to add three Gorgeous Grape Rhinestones onto the belt of the dress.
