Hello, Crafters.
Today is a Bank Holiday here in the UK and we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day. The early May Day Bank Holiday should have been on Monday 4th May but it was moved to Friday 8th May to coincide with Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. Celebrations had been planned but have been cancelled because of the pandemic!
This is the first card I’ve made using the flowers and greenery in the Morning Star Stamp Set (ret Mini page 21), which I’m regretting somewhat because it’s a beautiful set! This set was demo’d by Shelli at OnStage last November in Dortmund, Germany. She also demonstrated how to make a fabulous star-shaped box plus lid! This set co-ordinates with the Stitched Stars Dies (C/F).
I chose Purple Posy and Pear Pizzazz as my colour combo and started by stamping the main green leaf stamp that fits into the no. 6 star die beautifully. I practised how the flower goes onto the greenery a few times on scrap paper before I had worked out what areas to look for to make sure the flower didn’t overlap areas it wasn’t supposed to!
When I was confident, I stamped the large greenery stamp onto a piece of Whisper White Cardstock (CS), and then I stamped the flower using Purple Posy. I should have used my Stamparatus so I could have stamped two or three times to get a deeper colour. When I was experimenting on scrap paper I had tried Highland Heather Ink but I felt it was too dark! What was more frustrating was the fact that my Stamparatus was already sitting on my desk ready for the sentiment!! Grrr!!
Never mind, onward and upwards! After I had die-cut the flower and greenery, I die-cut a Purple Posy CS star using the no. 7 die. I remember using this set of dies for a Christmas card last year and decorated it by die-cutting the little decorations that fit inside the corners between each point of the star. I chose the CONGRATULATIONS sentiment from the Flourishing Phrases Stamp Set (ret annual page 35). I’m sorry to see this stamp set go but I’ve certainly had value for money with it!
As you know, I struggle with straight lines and I didn’t want to die-cut the sentiment so I decided to let my Stamparatus do the work! I keep some scrap computer paper on my desk which I’ve cut to the size of a regular top layer, so it’s ready when I start testing something like this. The word CONGRATULATIONS is a tad short of being perfectly straight so to me, that’s a huge success! LOL!
I adhered the top layer of Whisper White CS to the middle Purple Posy CS layer and then adhered to the Whisper White CS card base. Next, I adhered the two stars together and adhered them to the card front at an angle, and then I adhered the little decorative triangles in the corners of the stars. I stamped some stars around the sentiment and was going to stop there but it didn’t look quite right so I spread them around the card.
To decorate the inside of the card I wanted to stamp some greenery and a flower in the bottom right-hand corner. I cleaned the main greenery stamp and masked off the top two branches, inked the remaining three in Pear Pizzazz Ink and stamped. After stamping the Purple Posy flower, I stamped three sets of stars, and then adhered the Whisper White CS layer to the middle Purple Posy CS layer, and then on to the card base.
To finish my card, I painted five Basic Pearl Jewels using the Dark Purple Posy Stampin’ Blend but the pearls were too pink. I painted over them using the Light Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend which made them a good colour for my card and I adhered one in each of the corners of the little decorations in the gap between the points of the stars.
That’s about it from me today. As always I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and in the meantime please take care, stay safe and stay well. Happy crafting.
