Hello, Crafters.
Yesterday I had a super busy day because my pre-order from the forthcoming annual catalogue arrived! It doesn’t take long to update my filing systems when a new Mini catalogue is launched but for the annual catalogue, it takes a good day or two. All I need to do now is to label my Designer Series Paper (DSP) trays and prepare seven new die sets to go into my die storage files. Although it was a very busy day it was also a very satisfying day!
I decided to choose an easy “swap” to share with you today and chose this card that was shared by Meghan Noland. My goodness, how wrong was I? This card was nowhere as easy it looked. I thought I’d be able to get a few strips of the DSP, which is from Ornate Garden and cut three pieces that become narrower on both sides towards the bottom and two with one straight side and the opposite side that gets narrower! Job done!
If Meghan is reading this, she has probably fallen off her chair laughing at me! LOL! Not being one who gives up easily, I persevered! The penny finally dropped and I cut a square of the DSP and sliced it in six slices! It should have been five slices but at this stage, I’d wasted more than enough DSP and decided I was happy with the final look of the card!
I achieved the same gap between each slice which I imagine Meghan would say is more important than the number of slices! The slices were adhered to a top layer of Mint Macaroon Cardstock (CS) which had been embossed with the Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Fold. I followed the sentiment layer except I changed Meghan’s THANKS which is from the Ornate Thanks Stamp Set to BIRTHDAY CHEERS ALL AROUND which is from the Perennial Birthday Stamp set (ret annual page 66).
Meghan used Gold Foil to die-cut the fancy label which is from the Ornate Frames Dies and die-cut the Whisper White CS that has been stamped with Mint Macaroon Ink with the long narrow die – from the same set of dies – that fits inside the lacy label die. I added a middle layer of Whisper White CS and also three gold Gilded Gems that are a part of the Ornate Garden Suite.
I don’t know if Meghan decorated the inside of her card or not. As you know, I normally do so I added a Whisper White CS middle layer and then a half-inch strip of the DSP that the slices on the front of the card were created with. I’m really pleased with my card and, now I’ve worked out how to do the slices, I’ll be very happy to make this design again.
I’d like to say many thanks to Megahan for sharing her card in the Virtual Swaps and inspiring me to CASE it. If you know Meghan, please pass on my appreciation to her. That’s it from me today. I hope you have a great weekend. Here in the UK, the weather is going to be really hot! Bring it on! LOL! I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and in the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting!

Great card Jan. This one could be calling for a video 🙂 Be safe &TYFS
Many thanks, Claire. I’ve put this one on my list of videos! 😉 xx
This is gorgeous, Jan. I did this technique for my blog yesterday with the Magnolia Lane DSP. The use of the Ornate is so rich looking. Have a great weekend. Oh, and I passed your reply on to Shirley. Thank you for your response to my comment.
Many thanks, Karen. It’s certainly a great technique. xx
This is such a lovely card. I love foil papers – along with glitter paper and rhinestones which appear on all my on all my cards. I am a retired costume designer so I love sparkle of all kinds. You are one of my favorite designers. I thank you for all the great ideas you provide. Although I have been a scrapbooker for years, I am new to card making, so I appreciate your creativity and I watch all your videos. You are a true inspiration.
Best Regards,
