Hello, Crafters.
Yesterday I posted a video of my pre-order products from the new Annual Catalogue. I’ll be sending a catalogue to all my customers soon. If you aren’t one of my customers and would like to be, and don’t already have a demonstrator, I’ll be happy to send you a copy. Please email your full postal address to me at janb@janbcards.com. Unfortunately, Stampin’ Up! rules only allow me to sell to crafters who reside in the UK, Holland, France, Germany and Austria. I am sorry!
Today’s card was inspired by a virtual swap shared online last week at the Stampin’ Up! Virtual OnTour Event. One of my highlights of SU events is sharing swaps and for the virtual event, we were asked to share a card we’d made. As I was looking through them, I took screenshots of the cards that appealed to me. If you’ve been following me over the past three days, you’ll know that I do try to copy the swap as it is.
I couldn’t quite work out how Carrie McHale had made her card so I’ve made mine very similar. The Real Red Cardstock (CS) card base and the From My Heart Designer Series Paper (DSP) are the same, although I have put a layer of Whisper White CS between the two. Carrie used a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY sentiment which looks as if it has been heat-embossed in Real Red Ink but I can’t identify which stamp set it’s from. I chose HAPPY BIRTHDAY from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set.
Carrie had used the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set and stamped two of the largest tulips using Real Red Ink and three leaves using – I think – Old Olive Ink. Next, she had taken a large rectangle of Whisper White CS and stamped the sentiment in Real Red Ink near the top. Then she stamped two stems in the bottom left-hand corner. The two tulips and two of the leaves were punched out using the Tulip Builder Punch, and the third leaf was fussy cut.
Carrie’s card get’s really interesting when she started to put all the pieces together. The two flower heads were popped up on Dimensionals and it’s the next bit I’m not too sure about. I can see one leaf has been adhered partly on the Whisper White layer and overhanging onto the DSP. The other two leaves have been popped up on Dimensionals but have been cut off in a straight line about an eighth of an inch lower than the bottom of the Whisper White CS.
I tried to achieve the same look on my card but I failed! I ended up stamping all the elements, i.e. the tulips, the stems and the leaves, straight onto my Whisper White CS. I’m pleased with how my card has turned out but the tulips do lack the dimension of Carrie’s tulips. I compensated by stamping the sentiment using Garden Green Ink and die-cutting it using the no. 2 fancy die from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. I used the no. 5 rectangle die from the same set for the image.
Using Dimensionals I adhered the image to the card front first and then, still using Dimensionals I overlapped the sentiment onto the bottom right-hand corner of the image. My final touch was adding three Cherry Cobbler Rhinestones to the sentiment from the Holiday Rhinestones which were available from the Christmas Catalogue last year.
I used the medium-sized tulips for my card because Carrie’s card looks wider than mine and I thought the bigger tulips might be too big! To decorate the inside of my card I added a layer of Whisper White CS on the right-hand side for the sentiment and/or greeting. I had a small image I’d created for the front of my card but I’d rejected it because it was far too small. I adhered it in the centre of the left-hand side inside my card. It looks as if I planned it to be like that! LOL!
Before I go, I’d like to say thanks to Carrie McHale for the inspiration and for sharing her card at OnTour. That’s about it from me today and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx
