Hello, Crafters.
Yesterday I told you that Stampin’ Up! was running a virtual online event to replace the OnTour live events that had been planned during May but which had to be cancelled because of the pandemic. We have seen product presentations, speed networking via Zoom and business presentations. SU has done so well in putting all this together, and they didn’t let us down one of my favourite parts of SU events, i.e. swaps!
The solution is to have virtual swaps where all demonstrators share one of the cards they’ve made, just by posting a photograph of it in the OnTour Facebook Group. Last time I looked there was well over one thousand cards that have been posted. My problem was how can I share them with you? I decided I’d go through them and take screenshots of some that appealed to me, CASE them and then share them with you.
So today’s card has been CASE’d from a card posted by Cindy Westerink. I have found the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set difficult to work with because the large tulip is just too large……….or so I thought until I saw Cindy’s card. As I am sharing a virtual swap, I have done my best to copy Cindy’s card without adding my spin to it. The one main change I have made is I’ve changed the HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY sentiment to a HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment.
I don’t know which stamp set Cindy’s sentiment is from but mine is from the Birthday Jubilee Stamp Set (ret mini catalogue page 35). There were a couple of areas I couldn’t quite work out what Cindy has done so I have improvised. For example, behind the tulips, there is a Whisper White Cardstock (CS) fancy die-cut/punched shape I can’t see enough of to identify. My alternative is a Stitched Rectangle Die, regular size no. 2.
I didn’t recognise the Designer Series Paper (DSP) Cindy used so I chose the spotted Petal Pink design from the Bird Ballad DSP. Cindy’s DSP is Petal Pink and the spots are little clusters of three white spots – does that sound familiar to you? Apart from the DSP and the die-cut/punch label behind the three tulips, they are the only two products I’ve changed.
Another slight difference is the way I have positioned the ribbon. I took a lot of care when I cut the diagonal line for the embossed cardstock and the DSP, but I didn’t notice that I should also have taken into account where the ribbon should be going! Cindy’s ribbon went over the straight bottom left-hand side, and the top ribbon went over the straight top edge on the right-hand side which left about half an inch of the embossed cardstock exposed.
As you can see, both ends of my ribbon went over the corners – not a good idea! Although I have successfully anchored both corners securely, it doesn’t look as nice as Cindy’s card! However, with the small substitutes I had to make, I’m sure you can see that Cindy’s card was really lovely. She has certainly made me think twice about the large tulips. I’m pleased to say the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set is being carried over into the new catalogue!
The products Cindy used are the Ornate Layer Dies for the lacy white frame and the Whisper White CS layer has been embossed with the Tufted 3D Embossing Folder which I really sorry to see is retiring on 2nd June! (Ret annual page 199). The ribbon is Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon which I’m really pleased to say is being carried forward!
To decorate the inside of my card I added a layer of Petal Pink CS and a top layer of Whisper White CS. I stamped and fussy-cut two of the smaller tulips and adhered them in the bottom right-hand corner. On the front of my card, I added two Champagne Rhinestones on the sentiment and two on each end of the ribbon. Cindy added three of them on her sentiment.
That’s it from me today, and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting!
JanB. xx

Very very pretty card Jan. This one seems dainty as well. Awesome. Be safe & TYFS
Many thanks, Claire. I think your word is spot on! I don’t think the large tulip does looks dainty at all normally but on this card it does. xx
Another lovely card – this ornate garden suite is to so incredible to work with. Can’t wait to get the border dies of this suite. Take care and stay safe.
Many thanks, Lynda. The dies is this suite are absolutely fabulous. I hope they never retire! xx
