Hello, Crafters.
Today hubby begins three weeks on furlough. He has a list of jobs he wants to do so I don’t expect I’ll see him sitting around twiddling his fingers! His job can be very stressful so three weeks off will do him the world of good, and the garden! I hope the weather stays nice, not only for the gardening but so we have time to go out for walks together like we did yesterday.
Today’s card is basically a very easy card to make. The only part I found a bit of a challenge was getting the positioning of the masks for the sentiment in the right place and parallel. Fortunately, it’s jobs like this that makes our Grid Paper worth its weight in gold! Another very useful tool for me with this card was my Stamparatus, which helped me to get the sentiment straight and a well-inked impression.
I started by marking where the top and bottom of the space was that I needed for the sentiment and then I was able to make a mask to cover the entire sentiment area. The easiest way I found was, with the aid of my Grid Paper, to lay a large Post It Note along the top of the sentiment space and then another piece along the bottom edge so this left just the sentiment space in the middle exposed. So I made a mask to fit that space.
Once I had the mask in place, I used four of the small flower stamps from the Under My Umbrella Stamp Set (c/f) and stamped along the top and the bottom of the mask. I used Tuxedo Black Memento ink so I could use my Stampin Blends to colour the flowers. When I started colouring, I left the mask in place to make sure I didn’t allow any Blend to wander into the sentiment space!
It all worked well! The colours I used are: flowers – Light Lovely Lipstick; centre of flowers – Dark Daffodil Delight; leaves – Dark Call Me Clover. All components of these images are really quite small and I found it better to use the writing tip end rather than the brush. I don’t particularly like using this end but it is better for me when I’m doing smaller areas.
The sentiment HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAY YOUR DAY BE AS BEAUTIFUL AS YOU is from the Beautiful Day Stamp Set (ret annual page 131) and I set it up in my Stamparatus. Did you notice the Stamparatus Plates are retiring on 2nd June 2020? I have two sets of plates and find it very useful, especially if I’m working on a lengthy project e.g. swaps. With two sets of plates, I can leave my swap stamps on the first two plates and use the second two for individual cards, e.g. my blog!
I decided to finish off this part of the design by cutting two very thin strips of Lovely Lipstick Cardstock (CS) to “frame” the sentiment. After adhering the image layer to a layer of Lovely Lipstick CS layer, I adhered them onto a Whisper White CS card base. I also added a layer of Lovely Lipstick CS inside the card and then adhered a layer of Whisper White CS on top.
I chose one of the four flower images and stamped it in each of the four corners on the top layer and coloured them the same way I did on the front of the card. When I went back to the front of my card it looked as if it was missing something and my first thought was bling but I decided it wasn’t that. Then I decided I needed a butterfly to finish it off!
I took some scrap Whisper White CS and stamped one of the small butterflies from the Butterfly Gala Stamp Stamp (c/f) four times. This was to give me a chance to decide how I wanted to colour the butterfly because I wanted to use the same three colours I used on my flowers. Eventually, I finished with a butterfly that I liked the colours and adhered it in the top right-hand corner. I was happy!
That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, and the meantime, please take care, stay safe and stay well! Happy crafting!
