Hello, Crafters.
I have CASE’d today’s card from one of the very talented ladies in my team, Alison Caffell. Alison recently shared this card online and I thought it was stunning. Fortunately, Alison has started making videos and she made her second video showing how she made this card. I’m not new to sponging but I don’t think I have ever done sponging with three different colours in this way before!
The effect is stunning! The colours used for the sponging are Blackberry Bliss, Highland Heather and Pool Party and then the large flower was stamped using Stazon Black Ink. It was stamped a second time onto a PostIt Note and then cut out so it could be used as a mask. Next, the stamp with the branches and leaves were stamped four times around the flower.
The big reveal when the mask is removed is stunning. The next step from Alison was colouring the small leaves using Pool Party and Highland Heather. She said there wasn’t any kind of pattern to the colours, just totally random. It’s amazing how much this has added to the image.
Next, Alison said to colour the flower with the Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen. As usual, it doesn’t show up very well in the photographs but it looks amazing in real life. The stamp set Alison used for this card is the new Tasteful Touches. We used one of the sentiments which says THE GOOD THINGS IN LIFE ARE BETTER WITH YOU.
I stamped it by hand after doing several practices on scrap paper and I think it looks more or less straight! LOL! I adhered my top layer to a layer of Blackberry Bliss Cardstock (CS) and then onto a Whisper White CS card base. In the video, Alison didn’t decorate the inside of her card.
For the inside of my card, I took a top layer of Whisper White CS and stamped the branches and leaves stamp – using Black Stazon Ink – in the bottom right-hand corner. I positioned the stamp so it was coming off the cardstock. I used the Stampin’ Write Marker Pens again to colour the leaves very randomly in Pool Party and Highland Heather.
As I’m writing I realised I hadn’t painted the leaves inside the card with my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter pen. I stopped and remedied my oversight but I didn’t stop to re-do the photographs on the basis that the Wink of Stella is hardly visible on photographs anyway! If you’d like to see exactly how Alison made her card, this is her video.
If you watch Alison’s video and you like it, please give her a thumbs up and subscribe if you’d like to see her future videos! A couple of things for you to watch out for! Firstly, Alison uses slightly different layers to mine and secondly, she counts her dies stating from the outside in and I count from the inside out! There isn’t a right or wrong way to count!
That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx

Jan, just watched Alison’s video and her card is just so lovely and she explains the steps so very clearly. I need to ask why you both used Stazon ink as opposed to Momento. XX Mal
Hi, Mal. I used Stazon because I was using our regular water-based dye inks for the sponging and Stampin’ Write Markers for the very small leaves. Alison is a new demonstrator and hasn’t been able to get all SU products yet, so she used black ink from her stash and I don’t recognise what ink it is. xx
Thanks Jan. Ok i now think I understand – Stazon for water based inks and Memento for alcohol based markers. Alison will go far as she was very clear in her video. I did subscribe to her channel and hope she does as blog. Xx mal
Many thanks for supporting Alison. Yes, she has a very soft, calm, relaxing voice and she doesn’t rush. She’s certainly going to have FB page and a blog. She can go far! xx
