Hello, Crafters.
I had no intention of buying the Best Plaid Builder Dies when I first saw them in the catalogue, but I changed my mind when I saw some of the colour combinations crafters were using! All of a sudden they became irresistible. It’s available as a bundle with the Best Year Stamp Set but I didn’t buy that.
This set of dies arrived last week at the same time as another set of dies I bought without the stamp set! The second set is the Hippo & Friends Dies which is available as a bundle with the Hippo Happiness Stamp Set. I overlooked it the first time around because I didn’t want the stamp set, but I didn’t realise what fabulous layering dies are included in the set! I just had to have them!
Yesterday I decided to play with the Plaid Builder Dies first but I didn’t realise how difficult it would be to decide which colour combo to use! Once I had made my card I had a great idea for another card design, so I’m saving that for another day! Today’s card was my first play with these dies which were taken straight out of the packet they arrived in! I haven’t “processed” them for my filing system yet!
Normally what happens with new dies is that I get to have a play with them when I die-cut an image from each die in a pack. When it’s a set like this, it’s my opportunity to see how they work together and how to get the best out of them! For example, I would have known to use a shim with my Big Shot, and also to use by die-brush attachment for my Take Your Pick to get all the pieces out.
The cardstock (CS) I used for today’s card is for the card base it’s Just Jade CS, for the middle layer it’s Shimmery White CS, for the lower layer of braid it’s Magenta Madness CS and for the top layer of the plaid it’s Just Jade. I used the same sentiment that I used for yesterday’s card, i.e. BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT which is from the Band Together Stamp Set.
Using Just Jade Ink, I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Shimmery White CS and die-cut it with the Stitched Shapes Oval Die no. 2. Next, I die-cut another oval die using no. 3 die and Just Jade CS. I added a bow made with the Just Jade 2020 -2022 InColour Ribbon which I adhered with a Glue Dot and some Tombow.
To finish off the front of the card I added some Magenta Madness and Just Jade 2020 -2022 InColour Enamel Dots. Inside the card, I adhered a middle layer of Magenta Madness CS and a top lay of Shimmery White CS. I couldn’t think of what to use to decorate inside the card with and I started tidying up while I was thinking about it. I saw in the Just Jade CS off-cut folder two narrow strips of cardstock!
I adhered one down the right-hand side and the other across the bottom making sure they were both about half an inch away from the edge! The layout sort of matched the top layer of the plaid! Such an easy and quick card to make and quite a stunner! That’s it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow, so in the meantime please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.

Good morning Jan, I absolutely love this card, especially the color combo! These colors go so great together. Can’t wait to see your make on the Hippo die set. I’m sure it’ll be cute and adorable. Be safe & TYFS
