Hello, Crafters.
It isn’t often I make children’s cards because I don’t find them particularly easy. When I started today’s card it was going to be a shaker card but it kept evolving into various different cards before it finished as you see it now! When I first saw this stamp set I noticed the koala and the tree – designed for each other but in my mind, I saw him holding onto the giraffe’s neck!
Not that I think koalas and giraffes live in the same land as each other but it’s a card for a child and anything goes…………….almost! Would you believe it but I had to Google giraffe images because I couldn’t think if it was the “spots” that were dark or the other way round. As it turned out, it was a pretty good idea because I then Googled koalas and elephants.
Had I not Googled koalas I would have used brown all over, instead of the grey with white around the edge of his ears, around his mouth and all his tummy! The grass the animals are standing in has been cut in Granny Apple Green Cardstock with a die from the Special Day dies that co-ordinates with the Special Someone Stamp Set.
I used my Stamparatus to help me line up the koala on the giraffe as well as the elephant holding the balloons. I enjoyed composing the scene but I was at a loss what to do with it when it was finished! Long story short! I die-cut the image using the no. 4 die from the Stitched Rectangle Dies and adhered it on the top layer using Dimensionals.
I wanted the colours to be light and chose Soft Sea Foam. It wasn’t an option to just adhere the image onto a plain top layer of Soft Sea Foam so I used the balloon stamp and stamped them all over the page tone on tone. I used a white gel pen to add a white shadow line on the balloons and did the same to the balloons in the background.
I stamped the HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment, which is from the Zoo Globe Stamp Set, onto the top layer using Mint Macaroon Ink. Typically for me it’s slightly crooked so I’ll remedy that sometime today by stamping onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, die-cut it and cover over the crooked one!
The Stampin’ Blend colours I used are as follows: giraffe – Light Crumb Cake, Dark Cinnamon Cider; koala – Light Smokey Slate; elephant – Light & Dark Grey Granite; birds – Dark Crumb Cake; sky – Light Crumb Cake, balloons – Dark Mango Melody, Light Pumpkin Pie, Light Bermuda Bay. I stamped the clouds using Smokey Slate Ink and a cloud stamp from the Sending Sunshine Stamp Set.
I ran out of time to decorate the inside of the card and only managed to adhere a middle layer of Whisper White cardstock. To give the balloons a bit of a shine I painted them using my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen. That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow and in the meantime please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
