Hello, Crafters.
I hope you’ve had a great weekend and are starting this bright new week feeling totally refreshed. Today’s card is an idea I’ve wanted to try for quite a little while, i.e. die-cutting a poinsettia using the white felt from the Mini Catalogue. In case you’ve missed it, it’s on page 29 (153516). It comes as a pack of four sheets – one in each of Early Espresso, Just Jade, Real Red and Whisper White.
The idea worked well but it could have worked better! The veins on the petals are clearly visible but even though I ran the felt and dies through my Cut & Emboss four times, the dies didn’t cut all the way through. First of all, I ran it through my machine twice, and then added a sheet of computer paper folded in half and ran the felt and dies through the machine twice more! This wasn’t too much of a problem because I found it easy to go round what should have been cut lines with my ribbon scissors. I cut one layer of each four individual layers of petals.
To adhere each layer together I added two Glue Dots on the layer above, added some Tombow, and then adhered the two layers together. I continued until all four layers were attached. I placed the flower under my self-healing mat while I went downstairs for dinner – the timing was spot on! When I came back to finish off my card, I chose one of the silver and white designs from the Feels Like Frost 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) for the top layer and a Silver Foil layer for a middle layer on the front of the card. Next, I debated whether the card base should be Whisper White or Smokey Slate!
Using Silver Foil, I die-cut four of the little sprigs which have little pom-poms on them – three for the front of my card and one on the inside. I also die-cut a silver holey bit for the middle of the poinsettia. I chose the sentiment MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set. This is a part of my card I think I’ll be changing! I heat embossed it using Silver Emboss Powder on a piece of Whisper White Cardstock (CS) but I think it would look a lot nicer if I’d used Smokey Slate CS. The Whisper White sentiment would be great if I’d used a Whisper White card base! Ah! the benefit of hindsight!
To decorate the inside of the card I adhered a middle layer of Silver Foil and a top layer of Smokey Slate CS. As I said earlier, I had die-cut a small sprig with the pom-poms on it using Silver Foil. I adhered it in the bottom right-hand corner. I had to trim a small piece off because the original size was too big for the page.
Apart from this, I’m very pleased with how this card has turned out. Needless to say, it will cost extra postage because the felt poinsettia is quite thick! ! That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.

Jan this card just screams elegance. It is so beautiful. XX M
Many thanks, Mal. xx
REally pretty! Actually I like the white sentiment piece – it matches the flower and is “brighter” than gray would have been….????
Many thanks, Billie. I’ll put a piece of Smokey Slate Cardstock on it to see what it looks like. I did think the silver embossing would show on the Smokey Slate! xx
Wow, this card is a show stopper. Very elegant, I’ll have to give this a try.
