Hello, Crafters.
I don’t normally make New Year cards but I received an email from a customer called Linda asking if I could come up with a suggestion and to make it a video. As you probably know, I love a challenge so I started by going through my stamps sets to find a HAPPY NEW YEAR sentiment! The only one I found was in the retired Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set which I had in wood mount. Although I’ve never watched how it’s done, I know you can change wood mount to clear mount. I had heard talk of a microwave but first things first! I decided to find out how hard the stamp was affixed to the wood block. After I applied a bit of pressure to the stamp, I was surprised that it came away in my hand! So far so good! Next I needed some foam to make the stamp thicker and I cut a piece of light blue Funky Foam about the same size as the stamp and adhered the two pieces together using Tombow. After writing HAPPY NEW YEAR on the blue foam, I added a strip of Cling Adhesive I had left over from a Cling Stamp Set. I put it to one side to allow it to dry and started working on a card design.
Part of Linda’s request was that she would like to make the card using our Note Cards & Envelopes and this gave me my idea for Sunday’s video. I don’t want to give too much away, but I do like to think that my subscribers will learn something from each of my videos even if it’s only something small. I spent yesterday working on my project for Sunday’s video and came up with a design I’m very happy with – the card I’m sharing today is not the video card! When I reached for the HAPPY NEW YEAR stamp it had disappeared! I have absolutely no idea what has happened to it or where it has gone! As that was my only New Year stamp I had to find something else and chose LET’S CELEBRATE which was LET’S CELEBRATE YOU from the Itty Bitty Birthday’s Stamp Set until I cut off the YOU! I think it works well with 2021! When I was ready to start creating a card for today, I was very much in the Happy New Year frame of mind and came up with this simple design.
I used one of our Note Cards with a layer of Gold Brushed Metallic Foil, then a layer of Basic Black Cardstock (CS) and a layer of Whisper White CS which I die cut from the Nature’s Thoughts Dies. Using Black Memento Ink I stamped the sentiment at the top of the die-cut. Next I punched out four large balloons in Basic Black CS and then four small balloons in Whisper White CS. I embossed the white balloons using the spotted design from the Wrapped in Textures Embossing Folders and adhered each one onto a black balloon. Using some scraps of the Gold Brushed Metallic Foil I die-cut 2021 using the Playful Alphabet Dies and adhered one number on each balloon. I used Dimensionals on each balloon to attach to the front of my card in a curve! I finished off by adding small bows using some black Baker’s Twine and glued a straight piece of twine from under the balloon to the bottom of the Whisper White CS.
I’m really pleased with how today’s card turned out! So with Sunday’s video card and today’s card, I’m hoping they will give Linda some inspiration for her New Year’s cards! That’s it from me today. I hope you have a fabulous weekend and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx

Love the card Jan, let’s hope 2021 is better than 2020!!!!
Stay safe xxx
Oh, absolutely, Kay! Nobody will ever forget 2020! xx
The 2021 Card is stunning! You have given me an idea to use with some note cards I have on hand! Learning to layer from you has really improved my cards! Thanks,
Do you know about St. Anthony? That he helps find missing things – if you ask him? He’s helped me many times.
Perhaps the new cling “sticky” back has stuck itself to something else? Be sure to check the trash bin! Good luck.
Many thanks, Billie. You’ll see in my Sunday blog I found my stamp and you were right, it had attached itself to something! But I’m pleased to say it’s back home safe and sound! LOL! xx
I love the card Jan. There’s nothing wrong about it. Love the balloons too!! Be safe & TYFS
Many thanks, Claire. Maybe I’ll make some New Year cards every year now! xx
I just read your email about the Let’s Celebrate card. I have found that putting the wood block stamp in the microwave for just 15 seconds that the stamp will peel off about 99% of the time. Hope that helps. BTW the card is awesome. I can think of at least 2 people to send this to (one is 107 and the other is 94) since I normally don’t send out New Years cards.
Many thanks for this Lola. I knew I had read somewhere about putting the stamp in the microwave but I had no idea how long for! What great ages they are!! xx
