Today’s card was a very relaxing play with the Snowflake Splendour Designer Series Paper (DSP). When I first received my pack of this DSP and checked the designs, I must confess I wondered what on earth I was going to be able to do with them. After making my first card using one of the designs, I was in love with it and have now used it to make a number of cards! For today’s card I knew I wanted to have a snowflake as the centrepiece and I also wanted to use the gorgeous Balmy Blue Glimmer Paper. After that I wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to go so I pulled out my sketch folder and had a look for a design that included a circle.
Today’s card is very loosely based on Freshly Made Sketch no. 106. I did consider putting the snowflake straight onto the card front but decided to give it a Stitched Shape die-cut circle using die no. 3. I’m glad I included the circle as it shows off the beauty of the three layers of snowflakes. The bottom layer of the snowflake is Balmy Blue Cardstock (CS), the middle layer is Balmy Blue Glimmer Paper, and the top layer is Whisper White CS. To build my card I started with a Whisper White CS card base, a middle layer of Balmy Blue CS and a top layer of Whisper White CS.
To make the strips I started with a piece of Snowflake Splendour DSP that was a quarter inch smaller than the width of my top layer. I purposely chose a design that had a light design on one side and a darker design on the opposite side! This enabled me to cut off a three quarters of an inch wide strip that I could turn upside down and line up against the opposite side. This has given me a dark narrow strip which I have been able to put alongside the lightest side of the design. Rather than using another design from the DSP I took a one inch wide strip of Whisper White CS that’s half an inch shorter than the DSP layers.
I used the Winter Snow Embossing Folder on this white strip and then adhered all the pieces in place. The sketch didn’t allow for a sentiment so I took SEASON’S GREETINGS ready-stamped sentiment that I had stored in my Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set box. The sentiment has been punched with the Classic Label Punch. I think it has been stamped using Seaside Spray Ink but it blends in very well so I’m happy! To finish the front of my card I added a large Blue Adhesive-Backed Gem in the centre of the snowflake and three small Blue Gems in the right-hand strip of DSP.
Inside the card I added a middle layer of Balmy Blue CS and a top layer of Whisper White CS. I decorated the bottom Right-hand corner with a Whisper White CS snowflake on top of a Balmy Blue CS snowflake. I punched a small circle of Balmy Blue Gimmer Paper and adhere it in the centre. Don’t forget: if you’d like to try this card and don’t have all the products, most of them are available today with a 10% discount! Enjoy! 😀
That’s it from me today and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
