Hello, Crafters.
Yes, you did read that correctly! Valentine card. There are only five-plus a bit weeks before Valentine’s day. Generally speaking, here in the UK we send just one Valentine card to our other half where as in the US I understand you send cards to lots of people. Apart from these two countries, I don’t know how other countries treat Valentines day. If you’re not in the UK or the US maybe you can leave a comment below to let me know what happens in your country?
Anyway, my point is starting Valentine cards five weeks out if you make a number of cards isn’t too early! The Designer Series Paper (DSP) I’ve used is called True Love DSP and all the designs are in black and white. On one side there’s a flowery design and on the other side a more generic design like the black spot design and the white diamond design I’ve used on my card.
The stamp set is Forever & Always which has matching dies called Always. I used the dies for the LOVE and made one with a Basic Black Cardstock (CS) base and a Real Red CS top layer and then I made one with the colours reversed. It wasn’t until I could see what the different colourways looked like that I could decide which one would look best. I also wasn’t sure if I wanted to use ALWAYS or LOVE so I made two samples of each. Once the two colours were adhered together it was really obvious that the one with the red base looked much better.
This made my decision for the YOU FOREVER easy – black embossing on Real Read CS. There are dies in the set which fit the words beautifully. The FOREVER stamp actually says FOREVER & but I didn’t want the ampersand so I cut it off. I feel easier saying Always & Forever rather than the other way round.
I fussy-cut the flowers from one of the sheets of DSP and adhered it DSP layer which measures 2 1/4″ x 3 1/4″, and then onto a Whisper White CS layer which measures 2 3/8″ x 3 3/8″, and then onto a Real Red CS layer that measures 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. I adhered the LOVE in position with Dimensionals that fitted around the triple centre layer – not on the layers – and I also used Dimensionals for FOREVER.
To decorate inside the card I adhered a top layer of Whisper White CS, then a middle layer of Real Red CS and finally onto the Basic Black CS card base. I looked at my sheet of DSP looking for a flower that finished on one of the four corners. I found one but I had to adhere it to the bottom left-hand side of the Whisper White layer that’s inside my card rather than the right-hand side because it looked upside down!
To finish off the front of my card, I painted the Basic Black LOVE and the fussy cut flower using my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen. I forgot to paint the flower inside the card before I took the photographs but I have done it since. My final touch was to add three Cherry Cobbler Rhinestones from the Holiday Rhinestones in a vertical line in the bottom left-hand corner and the top right-hand corner of the flower image layer.
That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow and in the meantime please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx

Beautiful! The red/black/white combination is my favorite! Thanks for sharing, Jan!
Many thanks, Kimy. One of my favourite colour combos, too! xx
Oh, so passionate! Your layering is always elegant. This card opened my eyes to the potential of this set. Thanks!
Many thanks, Billie. I love how the words layer in the Always Dies! xx
Morning Jan. Another oh so elegant card. Just love your layering and the colours. In Australia, we tend to send cards to our other half and I always send to our six children too with all the fur babies receiving an extra special treat (I know, I know!!!!!). XX Mal
Thanks for your feedback. Mal. I assume it isn’t too early to start Valentine cards then! xx
Definitely not, Jan. I have started 13 of them and have in the dehydrator some kangaroo fillets dehydrating (obviously!!!) for all my fur babies for Valentine’s Day . Adding another fur baby on Sunday as Bear’s parents are stuck in Queensland due to the Covid restrictions. Poor Bear couldn’t fly home (6 week delay) and has had to go on the road – 3 full days of road transport (but with an amazing dog transport company). (Our Valentine Day is 14 February). XX Mal
You have a bear?? Or a big dog called Bear? Yes, our Valentine is on 14.02.21, too! xx
Hahaha. Oh no Jan, Bear is a 14 year old Jack Russell who is partly blind and deaf. His parents are stuck in Queensland due to the New South Wales border shutdown and are unable to get back into their home here in Melbourne so they have had to send Bear the Dog to me via road transport which is taking 3 days. I will collect him sometime later tonight (hopefully around 6pm or thereabouts) and he will stay with us until his parents can come back to Melbourne. Hugs Mal and our huge gang of fur babies…
