Hello, Crafters.
I hope you had a lovely weekend. We had snow over the weekend which is still with us but it didn’t upset any plans because we didn’t have any – we’re still in lockdown! Although I don’t do cold, snow does make everything look pretty and it does an excellent job of tidying up the garden! Weeds? What weeds? LOL!
Today’s card is the fourth out of five retiring colours that I’ve been using recently. I didn’t know what direction I was going with when I first decided on using Terracotta Tile so I had a look at my shelves where my stamps sets live and had a look for new stamp sets I haven’t used yet. These are easy to pick out because I label all my new stamp sets with a piece of washi tape wrapped around the spine. I remove it once I have used the stamp set so I can see at any time how many stamp sets have not been used! This is an idea I picked up from Frenchie aka France Martin.
I saw Hearts & Kisses and thought that would work with Terracotta Tile as a lipstick colour! I stamped four pairs of lips but wasn’t happy with two of them because the ink was too heavy and it obliterated quite a lot of the lip details. Although there is a punch for the lips – and also for the heart – I decided to fussy cut the stamped images. I seem to have been doing this a lot recently and it’s normally so I don’t have the white edging, which was certainly the reason for today’s card.
The white label I have adhered the lips on was in my Whisper White Cardstock (CS) scrap box and it fitted my card beautifully. I took a card base in Terracotta Tile (CS), a middle layer of Whisper White CS and a top layer from the Ornate Garden Designer Series Paper (DSP). There isn’t a straightforward Happy Valentine’s Day stamp in the set so I chose SEALED WITH A KISS instead.
I stamped it on a piece of Whisper White CS using Terracotta Tile Ink. When I looked for a die to cut the image out I didn’t like how big the cardstock would need to be to accommodate the KISS because it meant there would be a lot of empty white space around the words SEALED WITH A. I decided to cut around the edge freehand. I’m not totally happy but it certainly looks better than having a large rectangle of Whisper White CS; maybe I should have chosen XOXO!
I adhered the lips to the white panel, which had been die-cut with a die from the Ornate Layers Dies, using Dimensionals and then I adhered the panel on the card front using Dimensionals as well. Next I adhered the sentiment using Dimensionals as well. To finish off the front of the card, I added some Artistry Blooms Sequins.
Inside the card I added a middle layer of Whisper White CS and also the fourth pair of lips in the bottom right-hand corner. When I first started this card I wasn’t sure how it was going to work with three pairs of lips but I’m very pleased how it turned out! That’s it from me today, and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe. happy crafting.
