Hello, Crafters.
I’ll be sorry to see the Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper (DSP) leave us at the end of Sale-a-bration on 28th. February 2021! I don’t like rainbows, I don’t like multi-colours, and I don’t like ombre so what is it about this pack, which breaks my rules, that makes me like it so much? I have no idea what the answer is but I’m pleased how today’s card turned out.
To a certain extent, I think the colours of the DSP are soft ice-cream colours. The four actual colours are Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss, Granny Apple Green, and Rococo Rose, none of which are soft colours; they are vibrant strong colours! So how did I come to make a card with all four colours? I had the donkey ready and decided I wanted to use one of our square vellum doillies! Nothing’s adding up!! When I started thinking about which DSP to use, I chose Oh So Ombre because I knew I didn’t have much more time to use it; in fact just twelve days! I decided to use the Granny Apple Green and the Rococo Rose and I cut two strips that were 1 7/8″ wide. Together they would make the size of a regular top layer!
I adhered the two pieces on a middle layer of Whisper White Cardstock (CS) and I was happy with the effect! Next I had to think about the colour for the card base, where was I going to put the donkey, etc. I decided Blackberry Bliss for the Card base and then started thinking about how and where I wanted the donkey to go. After checking the sizes of my different layering dies I decided to put the donkey onto an oval and wondered what it would look like if I used another Oh So Ombre DSP colour. Using the no 7 straight cut die from my Layering Ovals Dies, I die-cut a Bermuda Bay DSP Oval and using the no. 8 straight cut die from the same set I cut a Blackberry Bliss CS oval.
When I rested the donkey in position I wondered if I could use the fourth Oh So Ombre colour somehow, somewhere! I decided to cut a strip of the Blackberry Bliss DSP that was 1 1/4″ wide and then laid it down the centre of the card underneath the donkey! Yes, that was it! I loved it! I was now able to to put my card together. I decided to decorate the inside of the card using the same DSP but the plain coloured sheets. I kept the three vertical stripes in the same colour order as on the front of the card but I tipped the dark to light on the front of the card to light to dark inside the card. For the Bermuda Bay design I cut a strip from the middle of the sheet so it wasn’t too light and not too dark. I chose a die from the Ornate Border Dies to decorate one side.
To colour the donkey I used the following Stampin’ Blends: Light and Dark Crumb Cake, Light Granny Apple Green and Dark Rococo Rose. The sentiment HAPPY BIRTHDAY is from Itty Bitty Birthday Stamp Set and has been stamped with Blackberry Bliss Ink. I I adhered the oval, the donkey and the sentiment on Dimensionals. As I’m sitting here looking at my card, I can see the three plain strips stamped with a flower or butterfly stamp to create my own DSP! Hold that thought!!That’s it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow and in the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
