Hello, Crafters.
This is the first card I made using products in the Butterfly Bouquet Bundle! When I first started playing with this bundle I used the largest die which die-cuts six different sized butterflies from one of the sheets of the Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper (DSP). Next I took an identical sheet and die-cut the other side of this design and then finally I used the individual detailed dies and die-cut some Vellum butterflies. I didn’t know what to play with first and I decided to use a medium sized Vellum butterfly and use it as a stencil on a top layer of Whisper White Cardstock (CS).
I chose to use the largest (and prettiest) butterfly which helped me decide what colours I needed and I decided to overlay it with the matching Vellum butterfly. After checking the matching colours in the DSP I chose to go with Mint Macaroon. Using one of our fabulous new Blending Brushes 153611 (page 70 in the Spring/Summer Catalogue) with Mint Macaroon Ink, I wiped the brush in the ink pad. Next, I rubbed the brush over some scrap paper first to remove the excess ink. This avoids getting brush marks on your cardstock! I held the butterfly at an angle with part of the wing going over the edge of the cardstock. Then I gently went over the butterfly moving the brush in a gentle circular motion.
It always looks as if nothing is happening at first and it’s so tempting to apply heavier ink and a heavier hand but resist. When you see it beginning to get coloured, move onto the next area. and repeat. Keep doing this turning the butterfly template in different positions including going off the edge! The result was lovely and the colour complimented the DSP butterfly beautifully. I took a 7/8″ strip of vellum that was a couple of inches longer than the width of the top layer and stamped HAPPY BIRTHDAY using Mint Macaroon ink. The ink was very wet so I quickly reached for my Clear Embossing Powder and dunked the sentiment in the box. When I heat set the powder the ink “moved” and gave me a mottled result.
I decided to keep it as it blended well with the mottled design of the DSP! I took a piece of Whisper White CS to go behind the sentiment and layered it onto a layer of Mint Macaroon CS. Then I was ready to put my card together! I took a top layer of vellum and added some Tombow under the Vellum where I knew I would be putting the butterfly and also under where I was going to put the sentiment strip. I also added a small dab of glue in the top left-hand and the top right-hand corner. When putting glue under Vellum, it tends to show through but if you’re careful how much you use, you won’t be able to see it! Have a close look at my photographs!
Next I added the top layers to a middle layer of Mint Macaroon CS After I had adhered the Whisper White CS strip on the Mint Macaroon layer on top of the Vellum top layer, I wrapped the sentiment strip over it and adhered the two ends at the back of the card! Then I added it to a Whisper Whiter Card Base. I adhered the Vellum butterfly onto the DSP butterfly by adding Tombow along the butterfly body only! I adhered the complete butterfly in position and added some Coastal Cabana Rhinestones from the pack of Holiday Rhinestones.
I finished the front of the card by adding a bow made with a small piece of retired Macaroon Ribbon onto the sentiment strip. Inside the card I added a middle layer of Mint Macaroon CS and a top layer of Whisper White CS. To decorate the inside, I decided to adhere the Vellum butterfly I’d used to colour top Whisper White Layer on the front of the card. Waste no, want not! That’s it from me today. If you like what I’ve been sharing with you for the last three days, today’s the day you can order your own! Click this link to see the flyer to see the products on offer.
