Hello, Crafters.
I hope you were successful with the Last Chance Retiring List which went Live yesterday. In case you haven’t seen the list, this is the link for the European List. Lists may vary from region to region depending on stock levels so if you’re in the South Pacific or North American regions, please contact your demonstrator for your list or log on as you normally do to shop. You’ll find the retiring products under Sales and Specials.
Today’s card was created with my first play using the Friendly Flamingo Stamp Set and matching dies called Flamingo Dies! I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to use a stamped and die-cut flamingo or a die-cut flamingo so I created one of each and think the die-cut one is super-cute although I did find it a bit fiddly doing the black beak. I did think about just painting the beak black but wasn’t too sure how that would turn out. I’m pleased I persevered with the Basic Black Cardstock (CS) beak.
I used Rococo Rose CS for the flamingo and sponged around the edges using White Craft Ink and a Dauber. I also die-cut the two wings, sponged the edges and adhered them one on top of the other onto the Flamingo. I used the rectangle die from the Nature’s Thoughts Dies and created a surrounding for the flamingo. The ripples in the water have been stamped in Pretty Peacock Ink and then I used a Blender Brush to colour the area with the same ink. Then I stamped the reeds in Just Jade Ink and then I used the same Blender Brush with Just Jade ink to do the surrounding area and to blend it in with the ripples.
It’s very faint but I also did the sky behind the main part of the flamingo. Again I used the same Blender Brush but this time with Seaside Spray Ink. Note: I’m not planning on having one Blender Brush for each colour – I’ve bought two packs (6 brushes). When I’ve used one colour, before I go onto another ink pad, I “wipe” my brush over and over on my Grid Paper until it leaves the paper looking clean. The HAPPY BIRTHDAY is from the Friendly Flamingo Stamp Set and was stamped with the aid of my Stamparatus!
I adhered the image to a layer of Basic Black CS, and then onto a top layer of Rococo Rose which I embossed using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder. Next I adhered it to a middle layer of Basic Black CS. I had planned to use a Rococo Rose CS card base but it didn’t look right so I switched over to a Whisper White CS and I’m so pleased I did! Inside the card I adhered a middle layer of Basic Black CS layer and then a top layer of Rococo Rose CS.
I was a bit stumped about decorating the inside of the card because I wanted to use another flamingo but it’s a bit big and I didn’t want to cut his legs off. I decided to die cut another flamingo plus two wings using Whisper White CS. It would have been a good idea to colour the cardstock with a Blender Brush and Rococo Rose Ink before I did the die-cutting!! Then I reached for a small scrap of Basic Black CS for the beak and the eye.
I umm’d and ahh’d about cutting the legs short but I finally decided against it. The flamingo is tall but he looks great! This stamp set is in the Spring Mini Catalogue so will be available until 30th June 2021! That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
