To create today’s card I used the dragonfly image from the Suite Sampler Host Stamp Set. It actually took two days because once I’d finished it and had it sitting on my shelf, I decided I wanted to add some Vellum Cardstock (CS) wings. I stamped three images of the wings using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and left them to dry overnight. I could have used my Heat Tool to dry the ink but I decided to allow it to dry naturally and at the same time it would allow me extra time to think how I was going to add the wings.
First things first! After I had stamped my dragonfly image onto a piece of Whisper White (Basic White) CS, I picked out some light-coloured Stampin Blends to colour the different sections shown on the wings. These colours were Light Mint Macaroon, Light Pool Party, Light Soft Sea Foam, Light Seaside Spray and Light Balmy Blue. I used four of the colours but put Light Balmy Blue away – I didn’t think it would be light enough!
When I had finished colouring the wings, I used the Light Pool Party Blend to colour all around the outside of the dragonfly. I cut it to be a square which measures 2 1/8″ and added it to a layer of Bermuda Bay CS which measures 2 3/8″ square. I normally leave just one-eighth of an inch gap between layers but decided a quarter of an inch for the dragonfly.
For the top layer on the front of my card I cut a piece of Mint Macaroon CS and a piece of my chosen design from the Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper (DSP) that were both half the width of my regular top layer, i.e. 1 7/8″ wide. This DSP is currently on promotion until 3rd May 2021 while stocks last. It has been launched to compliment the Butterfly Brilliance Stamp and matching Butterfly Wings Dies which are both on pre-release from the new Annual Catalogue which will be going live on 4th May 2021.
I used the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder to dry emboss the Mint Macaroon CS and then I was ready to build my card. Starting with the two half-widths I adhered them onto a middle layer of Whisper White (Basic White) CS layer and then onto a Bermuda Bay CS card base. I added a one-eighth strip of Bermuda Bay CS over the join of the two narrow strips of my top layer. The width of the strip matched the width of the border on my dragonfly layer.
Using Dimensionals I added the dragonfly square as a diamond on the front of my card. The HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set and has been stamped using Bermuda Bay Ink. I used the no 1 slim die from the Stitched Rectangles Dies and adhered it to a piece of Bermuda Bay CS which measures 5/8″ x 2 5/8″ and then adhered it to the card front using Dimensionals.
I took a top layer of Mint Macaroon CS and stamped some dragonflies from the Field of Flowers Stamp Set at the bottom of the layer using Mint Macaroon Ink. After I had adhered this to a middle layer of Whisper White (Basic White) CS layer, I adhered them inside the card. I’m not totally happy with the top layer and might change it with a different stamped design on it.
The following day, I fussy cut one of the Vellum CS dragonflies. Initially my plan was to use just the wings and cut off the body but I didn’t; I fussy cut the body, too! I coloured the back of the Vellum wings first with my Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blend and them my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen. I also painted the wings of the stamped image with Wink of Stella, too. None of the glitter on the wings is visible unless you look behind them so I’m not sure it was worth the effort! Mind you, I’d probably still add the Wink of Stella if I was to repeat this card. I used Tombow to adhere the Vellum CS dragonfly body to the body on the stamped image on the Whisper White (Basic White) CS.
When I shared my Mothering Sunday with you yesterday, I forgot to include a photograph of the card I received from my son, LD! As you can see, it’s abba-so-lutely gorgeous!
That’s it from me today! I look forward to being back with you tomorrow and in the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
