Hello, Crafters.
I created today’s card using the Summer Days Stamp Set which is a Host stamp set from the current annual catalogue (page 187). The Designer Series Paper (DSP) I’ve used for the background is from Ornate Garden and with less than seven weeks left before this catalogue retires I don’t want to have such gorgeous DSP left over! I used the colour of the DSP to be my guide for colouring the image. As I started this card I didn’t have much of an idea how I was going to go with it but it developed really nicely and I’m very pleased with the result!
I painted the trees using Light Old Olive Stampin’ Blend first and then went over with Dark Old Olive to produce some shading. Next I painted the tree trunks using Light Soft Suede and then it was a question of what green to use for the grass. Normally my green of choice is Granny Apple Green – I think this is such a fabulous green! – but I didn’t think it would go too well with Old Olive. Also, I wanted a green that wouldn’t outshine the green on the trees. I decided to use Light Mossy Meadow which fitted the bill brilliantly. In fact, looking at it now sitting on the shelf in front of me, it looks very close to the colour of the DSP which is obviously the lighting surrounding the card.
Next I needed to paint the track and chose Light and Dark Crumb Cake. Finally I painted the sky using Light Pool Party. Eventually I reached the stage where I had painted within the black lines of the stamped image but I needed to go further so I could die-cut the image. I had to choose how I was going to die-cut the image so I knew how far to take my painting! Eventually I chose a Stitched Rectangles regular die no. 5 and completed painting so I knew all necessary areas were ready for die-cutting. Once I had die-cut the image, I die-cut some Gold Foil the same size. Using my trimmer I cut off the stitched edges from the image and adhered it to my stitched die-cut Gold Foil rectangle. Then I adhered it to a layer of Whisper White Cardstock (CS) which measured approximately 2 11/16″ x 4 1/16″.
Next, I started building my card by adhering my top DSP layer to a middle layer of Gold Foil and then onto a Whisper White CS card base. I used Dimensionals to pop the image up on the card front. The HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment is from the Posted For You Stamp Stamp and has been stamped using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto a scrap of Whisper White CS. It has been punched out using the Classic Label Punch and then adhered onto the card front using Dimensionals
For the inside of the card I took a top layer of Whisper White CS and, using my Stamparatus, I stamped the image of the boy flying the kit – from the Summer Days Stamp Set – using Memento Ink. I coloured the image using my Stampin’ Blends as follows: kite Light Bermuda Bay and Dark Shaded Spruce, boy’s cap, shorts and shoes Dark Misty Moonlight, shirt Light Pool Party, legs, arm and face Ivory, hair Light Soft Suede, grass Dark Old Olive.I adhered this to a layer of Old Olive CS and then onto the card base. At that point, I decided enough was enough because this makes a great masculine card just as it is and doesn’t need any embellishments. That’s about it from me today! I look forward to being back with you tomorrow and in the meantime please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.

Morning Jan. We are saying goodbye to summer here in Melbourne. Your card reminds me of my driveway to the farm house but I wish my trees were that green. Autumn leaves are on the ground. Blessings and stay safe. XX M
Hi, Mal. I know so many people who love autumn because of the colours! I don’t because it means cold weather! Maybe that’s why I don’t like the colour orange?? xx
