Pop-up Vase Birthday Card Video

3D Projects· Birthday Cards· Fancy Fold Cards· Videos

11 Apr

Hello, Crafters.

Today’s video shows how to make a fun pop-up card! I saw this project on a video made by Jane Dooley of jdpapercrafts last summer and was blown away by it. I normally say the projects I feature in my videos are easy to make but this one is a bit fiddly with the flowers but I think the wow factor makes it well worth the effort!

My prototype card was made with tulips and I was very pleased how it turned out but the flowers were quite small. This meant that the vase needed a lot of flowers which, in turn, meant it wasn’t suitable for a video because it would have been so much longer than this video and this one is long enough!

I decided to use the Pretty Perennials Stamp Set because the set includes fairly large flowers. It also had some smaller flowers which still fitted in beautifully. I used one large and two small for the vase, plus some greenery. I also added two of the bigger flowers at the back. In the Rococo Rose card I was able to do this without causing a problem.

When I tried the same on the Purple Posy card, I actually glued one of the stems to the moving bar of the pop-up. The effect was great because the flower moved as the card was opened and closed. Unfortunately when the card was closed this flower could be seen from the outside.

When I checked both cards to see why this happened to one but not the other, I saw that on the first card, the second stem went across the first stem and didn’t have any contact with the moving mechanism but in the second card the stem was glued onto the mechanism!! After the video, I corrected this by cutting where the stem was glued to the mechanism and adhered it to the inside of the vase!!

If you like a bit of a challenge, you’ll love this project, so please give it a try. Jane used the magnolia dyes to create her flowers. Another stamp set I think this will work well is is the Painted Poppies.

That’s it from me today. I hope you have a very blessed Sunday and I look forward to seeing you again next time. Take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.

JanB. xx

Hi, Mal. So sorry about yesterday’s video! I hope you were able to see the video later yesterday morning. Unfortunately, I was working late on this video on Saturday night and when I scheduled it for the next day, I didn’t take into account I was already in Sunday so I scheduled it for Monday at 7 am! xx

Many thanks, Claire. Yes I like the tulips but there’s too much fussy cutting to make it a video! xx

    Hallo Jan,

Vriendelijke groeten. xx

Many thanks, Mal. When I first saw Jane’s card, I thought it was stunning and I was so surprised that no-one else had picked up on it. It makes me wonder how many other hidden gems are there on YouTube! xx

    Hi Jan

Sorry, I may have misheard you on the video, but I thought you said you would have the measurements for this card in letter size paper over on your blog. Unfortunately I can’t see it. It’s just really the size of the vase portion of the card, and the measurement for the mechanism. Would they be the same as for A4 size card?

    Thanks.
