Hello, Crafters.
Last week was a very busy week for me and apart from my video – Colourwash on Vellum – I didn’t do any cardmaking. I decided to sit and relax and make a card on Sunday. I chose to use the main image from the Quiet Meadow Stamp Set and stamped it with my Stamparatus on a quarter sheet of A4 cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I coloured the image using the new Pale Papaya Light and Dark Stampin’ Blends as well as the Light Mossy Meadow for the leaves, Dark Daffodil Delight for the centre of four of the flowers, and Light Pool Party for around all the edges.
After checking which dies I could use to cut the image out with, I settled on the tallest slim die from the Ornate Layers Dies. The die was too long so I did partial die-cutting to get the length I needed. The finished height of the image was almost 4 1/8″ tall and 2 3/8″ wide. Next, I took a strip of Pale Papaya Cardstock (CS) and used one long side of the die to cut a strip I could use to decorate the little LOVE tag. I decided to start building my card before I went any further!
I started with a Pale Papaya CS card base and adhered a middle layer of Basic White CS which measure 3 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. The top layer is from the 2021 – 2023 InColour 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) Pack and it measures 3 1/8″ x 5 3/8″. I used the larger zig zag Border Die from the Basic Border Dies to cut the right-hand side edge. I decided I wanted to use the dotted side of the die for all three pieces of cardstock which I’d cut. The other option with this border die is stitches. I opened my card and laid it flat on my first cutting plate with the right-hand edge going through my Cut & Emboss Machine first. I positioned the die so that each end would look the same i.e. the design would look the same both ends.
For the Basic White CS layer inside the card I cut a piece of Basic White CS which measured exactly half the size of a normal card, i.e., 4 1/8″ x 5 3/4″. I lined the border die up on the edge making the uppermost part of the zig zag was just about touching the outside edge of the Basic White CS layer. Next I took a 1/2″ x 6″ strip of Basic White CS and cut exactly the same pattern so I could adhere it underneath to follow the line of the Pale Papaya CS edging. By cutting the strip 6″ long when I only needed 5 3/4″ allowed me some wiggle-room to make sure the pattern lined up perfectly. All I needed to do then was to cut off the overhanging bits.
To put this part of the card together, I adhered the inside layer in place first by lining up the top of the zig zag just a tad away from the outside edge. Next, I adhered the Basic White zig zag strip by putting some glue on the right side along the straight lower edge. Then I laid it on the inside layer and made the zig zags line up perfectly. Next, I closed the card so the white zig zag layer lined up perfectly with the Pale Papaya CS zig zag edge of the front of the card!
I went back to finishing off the front of the card by adhering the image in the centre popped up on Dimensionals. Using some Pale Papaya Open Weave Ribbon, I tied a bow and adhered it over the stems. I stamped the sentiment LOVE on a scrap of Basic White CS using Pale Papaya Ink and die-cut it using the small tag die. To add a partial layer to the tag, I used the strip of Pale Papaya CS I’d die-cut using the edge of the die from the Ornate Layers Dies. After cutting two small pieces and adhering them to the side, I cut a third piece to go along the bottom but it looked overpowering on the tag and decided enough was enough!
I found some long-since retired Stampin’ Up! orange and white Baker’s Twine and used it to tie the sentiment to the bow. Next, I adhered the sentiment tag to the card using a Dimensional. My finishing touch for the front of the card was adding some frosted Elegant Faceted Gems – one in each of the zig zag points – down the right-hand side. To decorate the inside of the card, I die-cut one of the stand-alone flower dies in the set and adhered it inside the card on the left-hand side. I cut quite a bit of the stem off to make it just a bit shorter than half the height of the card.
When the card is closed, the layer inside the card can’t be seen so it’s a nice surprise when the recipient opens it. I was very pleased with my finished card and found the time I spent on creating it very relaxing. I hope you like it too! Before I go, a quick reminder of Stampin’ Up! Evening Jan. Such an elegant YOU card. Just love the dies used on the side of the card. They are a must have I feel. Partial die-cutting. Have you done that in a video yet as I have not heard of it. Hope you are relaxing and mending. With much love and thanks for sharing your amazing talent. XX X Mal and Gang (which has grown by 3 stray cats – dumped so getting desexed soon and then ready for rehoming).
Hi, Mal. As soon as I saw these dies I knew what this first card was going to be like! They will be fabulous for wedding, baptism and Christening cards. I hope you live in a big house with a large outhouse for your ever-growing family otherwise you’ll end up sleeping in a tent in your garden! Bless you for everything you do for unfortunate animals, Mal. 💖xx
Morning Barb. Now go sit down as you will fall down from what you are about to read! All good though!
I have a large farm which I inherited from my in-laws just a few hours out of Melbourne but I do live in Melbourne for about 4 days a week due to chemo treatment but get to the farm the remainder of the week.
Believe it or not, but I live in a caravan on the farm as I am sponsoring a refugee family for another five (5) years (and hopefully beyond) so they live in the house and me in the van. I have an annexe to the caravan which is fully enclosed and all the “companion” pets stay inside (with access through a flap to go toilet). All farm animals live in barns; those Amish style barns which are much more comfortable than my caravan but I would not have it any other way.
Being an Aussie but living in Africa for 47 years since graduating from London as a vet, I returned to Australia as a “refugee style” and started life from scratch upon returning. So you can see where my Heart lies in helping refugees.
Sending you and Othman Healing Hugs. Rest, relax and be kind to yourself. XX Mal
You are absolutely amazing, Mal. I pray the chemo is working and that the prognosis is positive. If I ever visit Australia again, I pray we can arrange to meet! Simply amazing! 💖💖xxxx
