Hello, Crafters.
What makes you think “Summer has arrived”? For me, it’s picking the first strawberry from the garden! We picked our first one last week, and there are now a few more ready to be picked! Hubby and I have been spending time working in the garden together this year and we have masses of vegetables growing in our two greenhouses and small vegetable patch! Yes, summer is my favourite time of the year!
Today’s video shows how to make a kite fancy fold card which is a compilation of three or four videos I watched on YouTube. One of the changes I made was to adhere the kite onto a regular single fold card. I’m sure if I’d watched all the available videos I would have found one that has done the same!
I’m very aware that most crafters – and me – like their cards to be capable of standing up. The other alternative I could have used was to follow cards I’d seen, which was a card front only, and add a standing support at the back. The kite doesn’t close because of the thickness of the folds that are needed to create the design.
I saw two methods used for the closure. The first, which I liked best, was to use a Glue Dot. I tried this for my prototype card and put my finger on the Glue Dot to reduce the amount of stickiness. It worked brilliantly but it wasn’t long before it tore my cardstock. The other method used by some crafters was Velcro Dots.
This is another efficient way of closure but I wasn’t happy to use one on such narrow cardstock because I thought a small amount of pressure could cause a tear – after the Glue Dot I was a bit nervous! LOL! I settled on using magnets which work brilliantly but I wouldn’t use them on children’s cards because magnets are choking hazards.
One thing I noticed on all the videos I watched was that everyone seemed to use a dark colour for the kite but I didn’t think anything of it at the time. The card I made as my “just before making the video card” had a Pale Papaya Cardstock card base and kite. It was very disappointing because the kite blended in too well with the card base. I think this is possibly why the other creators used a dark colour.
My favourite card is, without a doubt, the Pale Papaya/Cajun Craze card. I love the look of two different designs for the panels of the kite. I’m pleased I also made one with four – more or less – identical sections, although there is a part of me wishes I had used some gold stripes on the Polished Pink/Shaded Spruce card.
If only I hadn’t glued the circle onto the centre of the kite, I would have been in with a chance of changing two sections over! I have listed all the measurements in the box below the video, i.e. inches and metric for A4 cardstock users and inches for letter-size cardstock users. The only changes for the latter is to make a regular letter-size card base because the kite remains the same size for both.
This afternoon we have Vicki and her family, and our son LD coming over for a visit. All the garden tables and chairs have been washed ready for our first reunion since the first lockdown in March 2020. I’m so looking forward to all of us being together. 💖 That’s it from me today. I hope you have a very blessed Sunday. Take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx

Evening Jan. Now that is an amazing card and I just love it. Such a versatile card. I hope you and Othman enjoyed having your children over. Blessings and Hugs: Mal
Many thanks, Mal. We had a fabulous afternoon and evening sitting on the patio, most of us position our chairs in the shade and Vicki and Molly sitting in the sunshine. It’s well over fifteen months since we’ve all been together. xx
Oh Jan wat een ontzettend mooie kaart en model weer. Heel erg bedankt voor de mooie video. Helaas kan ik niet begrijpen wat je allemaal zegt maar het gaat mij dan om het model hoe ik de kaart kan maken. Prachtig weer.
Fijne en mooie zondag gewenst
Groetjes Manon
Heel erg bedankt, Manon.
I love this card. Couldn’t find the US measurement?
Many thanks, Sue. All the measurements are in the box below the video:
OPENING THE BOX ON YOUTUBE
All the measurements and the products used in creating this video are in the box below the video. To locate the box you must be watching the video on YouTube and then it depends what device you’re watching on. If it’s a laptop or PC, under the video, at the bottom of three lines of writing you’ll see SHOW MORE. Click on it and the box will open. If you’re on a phone, you’ll see a down arrow on the right-hand side. Click on it. I call US, NA (North America to include Canada).I hope this helps. xx
This card is just gorgeous Jan. Love the kite. I actually love both cards equally. Be well & TYFS
Many thanks, Claire. xx
I love your cards and have made several of the 3 point cards. People have really enjoyed getting them! I have one question. When using your paper cutter, how can you both cut and score with the same blade? Mine doesn’t do that.
Hi, Patricia. We have a blade and also a scorer on our trimmers. We know the difference because the light colour is the scorer and the dark one is the cutting blade. I assume your trimmer isn’t a Stampin’ Up! trimmer? xx
