Hello, Crafters.
Don’t forget the 24-hour Free Shipping offer for qualifying orders from Stampin’ Up! begins at 11 pm tonight if you’re in the UK and at midnight if you’re in Europe! Just to give you the head’s up, next month there’s going to be a Designer Series Paper sale. Unfortunately, we don’t know which packs will be included!
I created today’s card using the Hostess stamp set called Prince & Princess. I decided to use the frog – there is also a swan – and the first thing I did after I stamped the image was to draw in the eye! This was the easiest image I have ever opened the eyes on. Quite simply, I drew a half moon from the stamped line and then I drew a smaller half moon inside it and coloured it in black. Sorted! The frog looks happy!
I decided against masking to get the frog to sit on the lily pads and in front of the reeds. For me, I took the easy option which is fussy-cutting but if this is not your idea of enjoyment, you can create the same scene by masking. I stamped, coloured and fussy cut four lily pads – I only used three – and three sets of reeds. The reeds was the only part I wasn’t 100% happy with because I couldn’t include the bulrushes. Fussy cutting the reeds with bulrushes was one step too far even for me!
I used Stampin’ Blends to colour the frog and plants as follows: frog – Light and Dark Old Olive, Dark Mossy Meadow; lily pads – Light and Dark Shaded Spruce; reeds – Light Just Jade. For the background, I cut a large circle equivalent to the no 8 straight cut circle from the Layering Circles Dies. I applied Garden Green and Balmy Blue ink using our fabulous Blending Brushes. My goal was to make the upper part more blue and the lower part more green. I was pleased with the result and did the same blending on a scrap of Basic White cardstock so I could use it for the sentiment.
I have used two sentiments from the stamp set, i.e. HEY HANDSOME and IT’S YOUR DAY. Using my Grid Paper I found it very easy to line the two stamps up onto one block. Unfortunately I didn’t have a die the right size for the sentiment that would allow me to add a Gold Foil layer under the sentiment. I decided to use the Tailor Made Tag Dies. There are two different styles in this set and I went for the ones with the small slit at the top. I didn’t want to use it as a tag, so I lined up one side, ran it through my machine. Next I repositioned the die so it fitted back in the dotted lines with the end bar cutting the tag to size.
The Designer Series Paper (DSP) I’ve used for the front of the card is from Expressions in Ink. This pack of DSP includes designs that have gold foiling in. To continue that theme through my card I used Gold Foil for the middle layers inside and outside my card. I used the no 8 scallop die from the Layering Circles dies as a layer for the frog. Next I adhered a 1″ wide strip of Gold Foil to go across the front of my card under the image. Using Dimensionals I adhered the image in place and adhered the sentiment at an angle in the top left-hand corner. I added two bumblebees on the image, i.e. one above the frog’s eye to hide a smudge of black ink and the second one which appears to be on the frog’s leg but could be mid-flight if you don’t think a bumblebee would sit on a frog’s leg! LOL!
For the inside of the card I took a top layer of Pear Pizzazz cardstock and stamped the frog coming off the bottom right hand corner. Using the same Stampin’ Blends as before I coloured the image and then adhered it to the middle layer of Gold foil and then onto the card base. This has been a fun card to create! That’s about it from me today. Take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.

Oh my gosh, Jan, this is so cute! I love it, and makes a fun card for the guys (even the big ones)! xx
Many thanks, Kimy. It’s a great stamp set, too! xx
Great card – I love the frog! Have loved all the SU frog sets…. Yes, he’s happy and a bit teasing….
This work and the directions are a perfect example
of your talent and expertise. One of my least favorite things are frogs and yet I absolutely LOVE the card!!!
Many thanks, Kay. I appreciate your kind words. xx
Many thanks, Billie. I think he looks a bit like the cat that got the cream! 🤣🤣 xxx
