Hello, Crafters.
There are no prizes for spotting today’s mistake! I think this is one mistake I have made more times than any other mistake!
Yesterday, I was making my project for the Create with Us International Team’s October PDF which features the Penguin Place Bundle. The bundle consists of the Penguin Place Stamp Set and the Penguin Builder Punch. It was my first play with this bundle and I love it! I allowed myself to be so carried away with my project for the PDF and it was very involved! It took such a lot to write up all the step-by-step instructions! But it was worth it – it’s a great project! I can’t see what the other team members have come up with!
In my PDF I came up with a very creative way of making the penguins, and the penguin sliding on his tummy is just amazing! I decided to carry on with the penguins for today’s card and have kept it simple. The designer/s of this stamp set obviously put a huge amount of thought into all the individual stamps in this set – I used a lot of them for today’s card! Although my card is what I consider to be “simple stamping” it looks amazing! I had to cut my top Basic White layer smaller by 3/8″ on two adjacent sides to get the snow horizon stamp to fit. No complaint there though because it needed a bigger border with the middle layer which has only added to the look of my card.
I’m sure you’ve heard me say lots of times that I don’t like orange but I had to use Pumpkin Pie for the penguins beaks and feet! I decided to extend the orange to the balloon and then the Pumpkin Pie middle layer. After I had stamped the penguin on his tummy, I went to stamp his foot in place but the black outline of his body would have been visible. It would have been the same story with the beak. To combat this I punched out one foot using Pumpkin Pie Cardstock (CS) and adhered it in place using Tombow. The beak wasn’t quite so easy! I stamped his beak onto a scrap of Pumpkin Pie and cut it out – it was very fiddly and not the kind of fussy cutting I enjoy. Fortunately it was very small and didn’t take long to cut out! It was easy to stamp the standing penguin’s beak in place and the feet would have been too, but I decided to do two feet the same as the first penguin.
I put a Post It Note on the penguin’s flipper (?) and used Misty Moonlight Ink for the balloon string. At this stage, although I was happy with my scene it was very sparse. There are a total of 28 stamps in this stamp set and I decided to use the Christmas Tree. It wasn’t very imaginative but I stamped three along the “horizon line” using Garden Green Ink – it was looking good. The sentiment SEASON’S GREETINGS is from the Words of Cheer Stamp Set and helped to balance out the images.
I had seen the snow stamp and hesitated about using it but I took the plunge and went for it. I was happy! Before I adhered the image to the middle Pumpkin Pie CS layer, I embossed it using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder. To decorate the top layer inside my card I stamped another Pumpkin Pie balloon and was careful to position it so there was room to stamp the string as well. Again it worked well and I stamped the SEASON’S GREETINGS sentiment from the Penguin Place Stamp Set in the middle of the balloon.
I adhered this layer to a regular sized middle layer of Pumpkin Pie and went to adhere it inside my card. GRRR!!! My card was landscape and my inside layer was portrait! Will I ever learn not to make this mistake? Obviously I didn’t adhere it into my card. I will make a correct insert later today! My day today starts with a visit to Sharon to have my nails looked after and then I’m off to have lunch with my daughter – one of my favourite kinds of days! That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back soon. In the meantime, take care and stay safe. Happy crafting. xx
