Hello, Crafters.
When I was new to card making, I learned a lot by following various Stampin’ Up! demonstrators’ YouTube videos. As far as I can remember, most if not all of the demonstrators were from the US and I believe videos had to be no more than ten minutes long! Fortunately, I set up folders for individuals channels and saved videos I really enjoyed – these ran into 100’s!
I was recently reminded about a video posted by Dreaming About Rubber Stamps (DARS) on 11th March 2010 – yes eleven years ago! The video showed how to make a slider card and today’s card is my take of DARS card! The main difference is that I have made mine a free-standing card and it is for A4 cardstock users. At the moment I haven’t had a chance to try and convert to letter-size cardstock but I will do soon.
During the video I explained my journey from re-watching the video again to my finished card. I’m very pleased with the final result although I have to admit there were times when I thought I’d have to give up! Fortunately, I tend to be like a dog with a bone and I don’t give up easily. It also helps having an engineer for a husband!
The first two photographs show the video card with the slider opened and closed. All the products I used to create this card are listed in the box below the video as well as beneath my signature below. The pink and grey card is my first successful card which I made immediately before the video. During the video, I promised to list the products I used for my other two cards here on my blog.
The Designer Series Paper (DSP) is a different design from the Whimsy & Wonder DSP. The stamp sets I used are: snowman and Let It Snow – Snowman Season Stamp Set (SS); snowflakes – Peaceful Deer SS; A Joyful Christmas sentiment – Merriest Moments SS. I used Blushing Bride, Smokey Slate and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write Marker Pens to colour the snowmen.
I coloured the Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon with my Blushing Bride Marker Pen and explained in the video why I don’t recommend it! The cardstock I used is Smokey Slate and Basic Grey. The Calypso Coral and Basic Black card is the first successful card I made after chatting my idea over with hubby! Although I made a couple of mistakes, which can be seen in the video, they are too small to worry about!
The stamp sets I used for this card: May Your Days Be Merry sentiment – Tidings & Trimmings SS; small Christmas tree – Penguin Place SS; snowy village – Classic Cloche SS; Thinking of You sentiment – Merriest Moments SS. I stamped the snowy village with Black Memento Ink, Calypso Coral and Pear Pizzazz Ink. The DSP is from Pattern Party and I used Basic Black and Calypso Carol cardstock.
The ribbon is the Black & White Gingham Ribbon from the Christmas Mini Catalogue and the sequins are from the Artistry Blooms Adhesive-backed Sequins in the Annual Catalogue. Hopefully I have covered everything but please let me know if I’ve missed anything. This card would be great for Valentine’s day or any other occasion when you might want to send a surprise or secret message!
I hope you enjoy today’s video and give it a try! That’s it from me today and I hope you have a very blessed Sunday. I look forward to being back with you soon. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx
