Tidings & Trimmings Star Christmas Card

Christmas Cards· Stampin' Up! Promotions

17 Nov

Hello, Crafters.

What a lovely bundle the Tidings & Trimmings Stamp Set and the Christmas Trimmings Dies make? I’ve made two cards and the star card was the first. When I had finished making it, I wasn’t very happy with it but I couldn’t decide what was wrong. I kept looking at it thinking what can I change easily. When I realised what I could do, I did it and it made such an amazing difference. I know I’m starting at the end and working my way to the beginning but it’s something different so hey ho – sit back and enjoy the journey!

The one thing I could change was that originally I had popped the small solid stars up on small Dimensionals. It was very easy to carefully remove the Dimensionals and glue the stars onto the embossed Basic White Cardstock (CS) layer. The improvement was amazing; I went to being very disappointed to being very pleased. Who would have thought that six small Dimensionals could cause such discontentment?

Now I’ll go to the beginning and explain how I built my card! I started with a regular card base in Basic White CS, two middle layers in Night of Navy CS and two top layers of Basic White CS. With one of the top layers I die-cut the large star and fancy star from the middle of the top two thirds of the cardstock using both dies at the same time. These can be die-cut separately if you’re concerned the dies might move and overlap each other thereby causing damage. This is a very slight possibility. I feel that if this happened you would notice that it would become very difficult to turn the handle of your die-cut machine, thus warning you to stop because there’s an issue.

Before I adhered the cut top layer, I embossed it using the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder. After I had adhered it in place on my card base, I adhered the fancy star in the centre. All my gluing was done with my favourite Tombow! I chose the MAY YOUR DAYS BE MERRY & BRIGHT sentiment from the Tidings & Trimmings Stamp Set. Using Night of Navy Ink I stamped the sentiment on to a scrap of Basic White CS. I die-cut it using what I call the stand-alone die in the Stitched Rectangle Dies. After adhering it to a layer of Night of Navy CS I popped it up on Dimensionals and adhered it in the bottom right-hand corner.

Next, I took a scrap of Night of Navy CS and die-cut several stars – about thirteen, I think. As I’ve explained, I originally popped them up on Dimensionals but decided I didn’t like how they looked! After removing the Dimensionals, I adhered them directly on the embossed top layer and I had that lovely Yes moment! I had several Night of Navy CS solid stars left over so I adhered two vertical lines of three stars inside the card.  One line went on the top left-hand side of the Basic White top layer and the other three went on the bottom right-hand side. My final touch was to add Basic Rhinestones in the centres of all the stars on the front of my card. I think this finished as a stunning but easily made Christmas card. Do you agree?

Before I go, just a quick reminder that we are in the middle of the 3-day Stampin’ Up! (SU) Seasonal Sale – please check out the discounts on the Seasonal Sale Flyer here. It’s a great time to stock up with the basics because there is a 10% discount on cardstock, 15% discount on ink pads (excluding third party ink e.g. Stazon, Memento and the colour family bundles of our Ink Pads) and 20% discount on dies. This refers to products in the current Annual Catalogue.

If you are thinking about taking advantage of SU’s reduced-price joining fee that runs until 30th November 2021, and you want to choose cardstock, ink and/or dies to go in your Starter Kit, join before the Sale ends and you’ll get even more products for just £75/100€. If you don’t have a demonstrator you already work with and would like more details please email me at janb@janbcards.com. (NOTE: SU rules only allow me to recruit and sell to crafters who live in the UK, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Austria – I am sorry!)

That’s it from me today and I look forward to being back soon. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting!

JanB. xx
