Hello, Crafters.
At the time of writing, I am just eleven Christmas cards short to complete my 2021 Christmas Card List! As you know, I don’t do quick and easy cards but I decided I would try very hard to do just that so I can make ten more of them today! I think I’ve been pretty successful with this Whimsy Trees design and am very confident that I can achieve my goal despite going out today! LOL! My day starts with a visit to Sharon for my nails and then I’m meeting up with Vicki for lunch.
I think I have finally come round to the idea of pink for Christmas cards, although I do wish we had a softer pink rather than Blushing Bride! Pink and grey (Smokey Slate) is one of my favourite colour combinations and I like how it has worked for this card. I started with a regular card base and two top layers in Blushing Bride Cardstock (CS). The two middle layers and the Christmas tree are Smokey Slate CS.
After I had die-cut the tree using the die from the Christmas Tree Dies, I added some body/texture to the tree by embossing it using the Bark 3D Embossing Folder. While I was embossing, I decided to emboss he Blushing Bride top layer for the front of the card using the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder. The garland around the tree is created by another die in the set. I wanted a white garland but I didn’t want it to be plain white CS!
I decided to have a look in my scrap box of Shimmer Papers – all retired now! Each colour is kept in its own plastic wallet and in the white folder, there are two shades of white. I would have been happy to use either white if only one of them had a scrap that was big enough! No joy, so I considered using silver or pink – both Stampin’ Up! products but I really wanted white to tie in with the snowflake and the sentiment!
Then I remembered seeing a sparkly cardstock in my pre-order which arrived last week. At the time I couldn’t remember ordering a sparkly white paper but put my pre-order on one side while I concentrated on getting all my Christmas cards made. I went to my pre-order box and pulled out the sparkly packet! It was the gorgeous Mother of Pearl 12″ x 12″ Specialty Paper that will be available in the new Spring/Summer Mini Catalogue which goes live on 4th January 2022.
I decided to use it although I normally try to avoid using products which aren’t available yet but it’s a great substitute for what I wanted! I’ve taken a photograph of it – see below – but I don’t think you can see the real beauty of it! It’s a smooth shiny paper (cardstock) rather like photographic paper and has a what looks like hundreds of tiny pieces of broken white glass. Whichever direction you hold the paper, it stays almost white; not multi-coloured like holographic paper!
I adhered the garland onto the tree using my Fine Tip Glue bottle. After adhering the middle and top layers onto the card base, I added a Wonderful Snowflake (156340) from the Christmas Mini Catalogue, in position with the aid of my small glue bottle again! I stamped the SENDING PEACE & JOY TO YOU sentiment from the Great Tidings Stamp Set on a scrap of Basic White CS using Basic Grey Ink. Next, I die-cut it using the no.1 Stitched Layering Circle die – now retired!
I popped the sentiment up on a Dimensional and then added the Christmas tree, also on Dimensionals, I finished the front of the card by adding lots of Adhesive-Backed Sequins. I think these must be retired because I can’t see them in either of the current catalogues. To decorate the inside of the card, I added another snowflake so it was coming of the bottom right-hand corner.
I trimmed off the overhanging parts and added one piece in the top left-hand corner, and trimmed off some tiny pieces that were overhanging. There should have been a third piece of snowflake but it went walkabouts, so I finished my card without it! LOL! I added the top layer to the middle layer and then onto the inside card base. I’m very please how this card turned out and look forward to making more of them later this afternoon!
That’s about it from me today. I look forward to being back with you soon. The situation with this new Omicron virus is getting very serious here in the UK – and possibly elsewhere around the world – so please take great care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx
