Hello, Crafters.
I don’t know about you, but I think the Symbols of Fortune Designer Series Paper (DSP) is absolutely fabulous! Yesterday I played with the matching stamp set – Crane of Fortune – and the Good Fortune dies. The combination of these three products create a gorgeous suite but I have a problem! I think it’s gender neutral or at least, my finished card is! When I started creating today’s card I had in my mind a masculine card but I don’t think that’s what I’ve finished up with; and I don’t think it’s a particularly female card either!
Maybe if I’d used a plain cut Basic White Cardstock (CS) circle as a layer for the Soft Succulent embossed circle or even better a Gold Foil circle. I’m now on a mission to create a truly masculine card and a truly feminine card using this suite. As I said at the beginning, I think this is a fabulous suite, and I’m pleased with the card. Please let me know what you think!
I started with a card base in Soft Succulent CS that measures 5¾” x 5¾” – I chose this size rather than a 6″ x 6″ so it wasn’t necessary to buy 12″ x 12″ cardstock to copy this card. (Measurements for A4 cardstock are 11½” x 5¾” (29.2cm x 14.6cm) scored and folded at 5¾” (14.6cm) and letter size cardstock 11″ x 5½” scored and folded at 5½”). I also used two middles layers of Gold Foil 5½” x 5½” (14cm x 14cm) US 5¼” x 5¼” and one top layer of DSP and one of Soft Succulent CS 5⅜” x 5⅜” (13.7cm x 13.7cm) US 5⅛” x 5⅛” .
The Soft Succulent circle was die-cut using the Layering Circle Dies straight cut die no 8 and the Basic White CS circle was die-cut using the largest decorated circle die in the Encircled in Beauty Dies. The A HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU sentiment is from the Handsomely Suited Stamp Set and was die-cut using the no 1 regular rectangle die from the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Basic White CS using the retired Delicata Gold Ink and immediately dipped it into my box of Gold Embossing Powder. After I had heat set it, I die-cut it as explained earlier.
The crane I used for the centre of my circles was fussy cut from one of the sheets of DSP. I wonder if my card would have looked more masculine if I had used a stamped image instead? I have made a mental note to give that a try! Using the Delicata Gold ink, I stamped four pairs of dragonflies on a scrap of Basic White CS. Did you know there are some dies – like the dragonfly stamp – that have extra holes to help you line the die up correctly on the stamped image? With this die, when you have lined it up correctly, check that you can see part of the stamped images through the two small holes.
How do you recognise which holes are there to help you line up the die? Any dies that have a hole and look as if you can push the image out easily with your finger, you can assume it’s there to help you to line the die up correctly! My advise is to line the die up as normal to start with, and then make sure you line up the small holes. It isn’t a good idea just to line up the holes and hope for the best! Ask me how I know! Yep! You’re right! I tried it!!
To decorate the inside of my card, I stamped the crane coming off the bottom right hand corner; I used Soft Succulent ink so I had tome on tone. I forgot to mention that I embossed the Soft Succulent circle using the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder. To finish the front of my card I adhered three of the stamped and die-cut dragonflies. Let me know what you think about today’s card. I can’t wait to try it again making the changes I’ve suggested!
That’s it from me today. I look forward to being back soon and in the meantime, take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
JanB. xx

Jan, this is a beautiful card. I will CASE it with only a few small variations. I love the soft colors and peaceful flow of everything.
Many thanks, Meg. I’d love to see your spin on this card. xx
I really love this card Jan. I also think the crane is rather pretty/charming!! The gold layer is perfect for the gold on the crane. Absolutely love it. Be well, be safe & TYFS
