Hello, Crafters.
Today’s masculine birthday card really is a WOW card! It’s amazingly easy but definitely a labour of love. The first time I saw this project it was a mini journal but I was on the lookout for a special masculine birthday card and decided this would be fabulous. I actually need two – one for a 50th and one for a 21st! I went on to YouTube and found a video made by Ann Melvin. To save a bit on cardstock, I amended the sizing slightly but the biggest part of the work was decorating the inside Basic White Cardstock (CS) panels! The card I made in the video is for my son-in-law and today I’m planning making my grandson’s card!
At the start of the video, I only had my prototype card to share but I had made sure the outside, although undecorated, had been completed properly. Making the prototype taught me a huge lesson i.e. the Basic White Cardstock (CS) panels MUST be decorated before adhering the layers together! This is exactly what I did for Leigh’s card before I started the video. There were a total of 14 panels that needed to be decorated and had I saved those for the video, it would have finished up being my longest video ever at several hours long! However, I said I’d share on my blog today which products I used for each panel.
Before I start, I’d just like to explain that on the right-hand side of each double panel there was a word. Altogether they read JUST WANT TO SAY YOU ARE LOVELY! Also, every square on the left-hand side of each Basic White CS panel has been die-cut from the Stitched Shapes square no 3 die – 2⅛” – using a design from the Sale-a-bration Sunshine & Rainbows 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP). On the right-hand side of each Basic White CS panel there is a Granny Apple Green CS square. One more thing I must tell you is that when I make personal birthday cards, there are times I use retired products which I will mark as (ret) in the description!
The Basic White CS 2⅝” square on the front of the card was die-cut using the Stitched Shapes Dies (ret) and decorated with images from the Welcoming Window Stamp Set using Cinnamon Cider, Soft Suede and Granny Apple Green Ink. The sentiment SENDING SUNSHINE FOR A BEAUTIFUL BIRTHDAY is from the same stamp set and has been stamped in Granny Apple Green Ink. I decorated the shelf with some Pebbles Enamel Shapes. I die-cut Leigh’s name using the Playful Alphabet Dies. The words JUST WANT TO SAY have all been die-cut using the blue Supple Shimmer Specialty Paper using the die from Floral Gallery Dies which has a matching Stamp Set called Art Gallery The bird and the bee are both from the Iconic Dies which is a stand alone product. I used Soft Suede and Crumb Cake CS for the bird and Soft Suede, Basic Black, Daffodil Delight and Vellum CS behind the wings for the bumblebee.
The mushroom/toadstool is also from the Iconic dies and was made using Crumb Cake and Real Red Cardstock. I also filled the holes with some Fine Tip Glue and allowed it to dry. The flower pot was die-cut in Cinnamon Cider CS using a die from the Window Flower Box Dies and the gardening tool, which has been die-cut using Soft Suede CS is from the Rain Boots dies which is currently available as a bundle with the matching Flowering Rain Boots.
The words on the last three panels say YOU ARE LOVELY. The first two words are from the Amazing Thoughts dies which is also available as a bundle with matching stamp set Amazing Silhouettes. The other two words in this set of dies are AMAZING and THANKS. Each word in this set has an outline die plus a solid die. I used the blue Supple Shimmer Paper for the solid dies and Pool Party CS for the outline dies. I adhered both layers together using Tombow and put them under a heavy weight while I carried on decorating the last few panels. The last word LOVELY was from the Lovely Words Dies (ret) and the hearts were from the Sweet Hearts Dies. This has a matching stamp set called Sweet Conversations and is currently on offer as a bundle.
The last three images were from three different sets of dies. The bottom layer of the leaves were die-cut in Mossy Meadow CS and the top layer was die-cut in Granny Apple Green CS using the Summer Shadow Dies. This has a matching stamp set called Shaded Summer. The feather, which was from the Natures Thoughts Dies was die-cut from a scrap of matt silver foil I found in my stash box! The final image is the butterfly which is from the Brilliant Wings Dies which has a matching stamp set called Butterfly Brilliance. I used Real Red CS for the top intricate die-cut and Crumb Cake for the solid base butterfly. All the images I chose are items you can find in the garden because one of Leigh’s hobbies is gardening, especially growing vegetables!
